This Christmas is more difficult than last Christmas. Our hearts are still aching but for her children, my grandchildren Rona Jo 5 1/2 and Korben 3 we are trying our best to keep her memory alive. Merry Christmas to all and thank you for remembering my daughter.

I remember Shawna from my childhood growing up on Kildaer Street in Alsip Illinois. She was a very sweet, fun loving outgoing girl. I was deeply saddened after learning of her passing. I pray for her family and all those who are close to her in this difficult time.

Cindy, I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for introducing her to me as it was my privilege to meet her and get to know her for a brief period of time. She was beautiful inside and out. I am praying for sweet Rona and Korben. What a blessing you are to them as a grandmother. They will keep Shawna´s legacy and memory alive. May God comfort you during this time.

My heart I can't imagine life without my beautiful daughter Shawna. I was there when she took her first breath as well as her last. She suffered in excruciating chronic pain for so long until her body failed her. As her Mom and Grandma to her children I'll continue to help raise Rona Jo, 4 and Korben Dallas 22 months old. I will always love my daughter and keep her close in my heart, sharing her story so that her children will remember her. Shawna's laughter, her quick comical responses, her amazing voice when she sang, her many accomplishments and most of all the way she loved her friends and family for who they were no matter what.
Shawna graduated with degrees in Forensic Anthropology and Science. She worked in the medical field for over fifteen years. The last few years she would work on and off always returning despite her severe pain. Shawna was brave and had the courage of a lion before she couldn't walk and went on medical leave one month before passing on.
Shawna chose to donate her body to science in hope to help others who suffer from the debilitating degenerative disease anklosing spondylitis. The complications that came from AS and the medications prescribed to treat this disease ultimately caused her liver to fail. The week before she passed she was transported to UT Southwestern Clements Medical Center for a liver transplant. After evaluation it was deemed too late because she was too ill and her kidneys were not functioning well. Shawna passed peacefully in her sleep, her face calm and beautiful as always (just yellow), free from pain to sing and dance with Jesus until we all meet again in Heaven.
Oh my how I'm missing her... I just want to argue with her about anything again. Yes, mother and daughters can do so...it's called unconditional love or something like that...
I'd love to hear how you know my daughter and love to hear/read your stories.
Please keep her children uplifted in prayer as well as Derek who truly misses her.
Thank you. Love always always...
Cindy, Mom of Shawna
