Shelly Turner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 22 to Sep. 29, 2018.
Shelly Nicole Turner, 48, passed away September 9, 2018. She was born to her loving parents Henry Coleman Turner Jr (Jay) and Nancy Jean Gonzales Turner on March 23, 1970. Shelly, a long-time resident of Brooklyn, was a successful New York City based photography stylist. Shelly attended Ferguson High School in Newport News, Virginia, The Interlochen Center for the Arts and Virginia Commonwealth University. Her fine arts background, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit guided Shelly's decision to start her own successful business specializing in set design, art direction and soft goods styling. Shelly felt very fortunate to have collaborated with so many incredibly talented photographers and art directors. She loved being a part of the process that creates "a beautiful shot". Her clients included Bloomingdales, Land's End, Macy's, Martha Stewart, Target and many more. She cherished her close relatives and friends and treasured time spent traveling with them. She loved her pet pug, Henry, and the exciting life and pace of New York. Shelly surrounded herself with a lively circle of dedicated friends and pursued her passions for art, and modern architecture. A celebration of Shelly's life is being held in New York City on Saturday, September 22. A memorial service will be held in Williamsburg, VA at a later date. Shelly is survived by many loving relatives, friends and associates. A contribution of remembrance may be made to the Shelly Turner Scholarship fund at VCU. Checks made payable to the VCU Foundation, in the memo portion of the check please state: Shelly Turner Endowed Scholarship, and mail to VCU School of the Arts, P.O. I worked with Shelly in the styling business, particularly on a Macys photo shoot, and we laughed our butts off. She had such a great spirt. Lots of fun and good energy. She talked about her dogs all the time. I was in shock this morning when I saw the invite to her memorial. Never thought someone so young and vivacious would pass. Just goes to show you how precious life really is. May she be at peace.

Shelly was a lovely and loving person. I knew her because her mother was a dear friend of mine. Plus, my children, Beth and Jake, were close lifelong friends with Shelly. At the cemetery for Nancy's funeral, Shelly embraced me and said with great sorrow, "I'll miss her so much." Now, this is tragedy upon tragedy. I'm hoping there is a heaven, because they will surely be together. Everyone who loved and was loved by Shelly will miss her so much.

I remember Shelly from high school. I didn't know her personally but she was always made up and looking nice. May God Bless and comfort her family and friends.

A bright light is missing from the world. I was fortunate to reconnect with Shelly in the last few years; we had met in high school and our paths diverged while we were in college. She is a sweet, creative, beautiful, funny woman and will be missed by all who love her, which is probably everyone who ever met her.
