Shelton Stohler
LA FERIA/SMITHVILLE, TX - Shelton (``Doc'') Stohler passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 3, 2005 in Smithville, Texas. He was born November 11, 1924 in Biloxi, Mississippi to George and Christina Stohler.
His family moved to La Feria in 1926, he graduated from LaFeria High School in 1942, and he joined the Navy where he served on the USS Lassen. At the end of the war he returned home and married Twana Britt of Lyford.
He was preceeded in death by both parents, 6 brothers, 3 sisters and 1 daughter, Diana Stowe (of Harlingen, Texas).
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Twana; his sister, Glorine (Morrie) Wyman of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter, Sandra (James) Fowler of Alvin, Texas; son, Bill (fianc©e Debbie Smith) of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; son, Shelton Jr. (Barbara) of Smithville, Texas; daughter, Kathy Holm of Smithville, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doc retired in 1990 from Rainbo Baking Co. where he worked in the bread business for 40 years. He was a loving husband and father and an avid fisherman. Family was his #1 concern. He was a life member of the 1st Baptist Church in La Feria, Texas.
Arrangements are through Rudy Garza`s Palm Chapel, La Feria, Texas. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in La Feria, Texas. Burial services will be immediately following at Restlawn Cemetary, La Feria, Texas.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the America Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, Virginia 22038-1131, 1-800-Diabetes (342-2383).
