Shirley Ackerman, 65, West Fargo, ND died on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving family. Shirley Cecelia Haider was born on October 25, 1946 at Mahnomen, MN to Mathias and Amy (Voit) Haider. She grew up and attended school there graduating from Mahnomen High School in 1964. Shirley married Kenneth Ackerman on October 24, 1964 at Beaulieu, MN. They made their home in Fargo before moving to West Fargo. Shirley worked as a bookkeeper at North Dakota State University, A-1 Forklift and Christiansen Cattle Company. Shirley's home was always open to anyone willing to play cards, share jokes or for a cup of coffee. When she wasn't busy cooking for her family and friends, she enjoyed spending a few bucks at the casino with Kenny. Crocheting afghans and enjoying classic country music was one of her favorite ways to pass time. She was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed her Tuesday morning breakfast crew for over 20 years. Her pride and joy was spending time with her grandson, Scotty. She is survived by three children, Douglas (Sally) of Fargo, Sherri (Shawn) Smith of Fargo and Randy (Celeste) of Elko, Nevada; a grandson, Scott Almer; sister, Lucille "Lucy" (Gene) Lindemann of Fargo; brother, Eugene "Gene" (Marci) Haider of Waubun, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenny; and sister, Lois Pazdernik. Visitation: Thursday, August 16, 2012 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo. Funeral: Friday at 10:30 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Fargo with visitation one hour prior. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Harwood, ND. Condolences can be sent via westfuneralhome.com
