CLINTWOOD – Shirley Ann "Caroline" Hall Childress, age 58, passed away at Dickenson Community Hospital in Clintwood on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, after a brief illness.
She was the daughter of Annie Ruth Hall and the late Jesse R. Hall of Conway, N.C. Caroline was employed by the Dickenson County School Board as a school nurse at Long's Fork Elementary for 30 years. She was an active member of the Clintwood United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a baby brother, Jesse Hall Jr.
She is survived by her mother, Annie Ruth Hall of Conway; husband, Kenneth G. Childress of Clintwood; two daughters, Hettie Love and husband Tony of Duffield, Jessica Childress and fiance Dwayne Ramey of Clintwood; stepdaughter, Cassandra West of Fremont, Ohio; four grandchildren, who were the joy of her life, Laken, Chase and Madeline Love, all of Duffield, and Logan Childress of Clintwood; loving sisters, Sonnie and Leon Galloway, Eva and Tommy Johnson and Mary and Phil Matthews, all of Conway; half-sister, Iris Hall and James of Middleburg, Fla.; several beloved brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Clintwood United Methodist Church, with Clergymen Ronnie Mutter, Bill Cahill and Ken Pierce officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Childress Cemetery, Route 611, South of the Mountain Road, Clintwood.
Active pallbearers: Jimmy and Sue Mullins, Ron and Ginger Kennedy, Steven and Connie Shortt, Allen and Donna Tickle, Ray and Cindy Mullins, Roger and Patty Wright, Larry and Jean Phipps and Roger Large and Sammy Anderson. Honorary pallbearers: United Methodist women, faculty and staff of Long's Fork Elementary, the staff of Heritage Hall and her nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel, where a song service will be held at 8 p.m. Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions may be made to the Clintwood United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Mullins Funeral Home and staff are serving the Childress family.

Ken, Hattie and Jessica, All my memories of Caroline are such sweet ones from my teens. She was and is someone I looked up to and admired. She gave me my first job as babysitter for the girls and her trust and encouragement helped make me the person I am today. I am so sorry for your lose.
