Age 68, of Hampton Township, on December 21, 2017. Loving wife of 46 years to Chester H. Kos; beloved mother of Dr. Cynthia A. Kos and son-in-law, Dr. Regan Baird; her son, USN LCDR Michael J. Kos and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Laura Kelley Kos; beloved Nana of Andrew M. Kos; beloved sister of Mrs. Kathy Cook (James); and brother, Mr. Thomas Hilderbrand, Jr. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Agnes Hilderbrand. Shirl was born in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in Etna and Shaler neighborhoods. She was a graduate of Shaler High School and pursued a degree in business from Robert Morris College. Her professional career began in PPG Industries, and was followed by a 27-year managerial career at JC Penney catalog sales. She was acknowledged for her charitable work for the United Way and Boys and Girls Club of America. Friends and family received TUESDAY 2-4 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. at WORRELL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 820 Main Street, Sharpsburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated WEDNESDAY at 10:30 a.m. at St. Juan Diego Parish, Sharpsburg, in St. Mary's Catholic Church.
