SIDNEY DAVID
On Monday, November 2, 2015. Beloved husband to Frances Gefsky Rice for 65 years; loving and cherished father of Edward R. Rice, Marjorie Rice Stein (Edward) and Sandra Rice Fritsch (Bryan); brother of Herbert (Evan) Rice, the late Beatrice Rice Cohen, Diane Kentor and Janet (late Bernard) Abels; brother-in-law of William Kentor; loving and adoring "Pa" to Carley, Ariel and Noah; uncle of Richard (Linda) Cohen. Also survived by other nieces and nephews. Mr. Rice was involved in his family business known as Pittsburgh Hat and Cap Company located in downtown Pittsburgh, having worked there since the age of 12. Sidney's father started the business just before the start of WWII. They were instrumental in providing hats and caps to servicemen. He later supplied sporting goods to professional sports teams, colleges and eventually outfitting NASA astronauts. In later years, his employment became commercial real estate. His true passion was his wife, children and grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Ethel Pierce, Kathy Wisnewski and Dr. Sean Nolan for their compassionate care. Services at Congregation Beth Shalom, 5915 Beacon Street, Squirrel Hill on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to Services at Congregation Beth Shalom (12 Noon - 1 p.m.). Interment Beth Shalom Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Congregation Beth Shalom Youth/Preschool Fund, 5915 Beacon Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Arrangements entrusted to RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC.

Dear Marjorie: Your father was the best and left so much to so very many. He graced your life with wisdom, love and laughter. I know it is so very hard but he will always be with you. May the memories bring you comfort.
