Simon VANDERSTOEL Obituary
Simon passed from the loving arms of his family into those of his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the age of 82. Predeceased by his parents, Simon and Elizabeth Vanderstoel; his daughter, Betty; and brothers, Gerrit and Andries; and sister, Jans van Donk. Simon is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jane; daughters, Marina Katerberg (Rik) and Jo-anne Nelson (Reg); son, Chris (Theresa); grandchildren, Taylor (Claire), Alyssa (Kelyn), Rachel, Haydon, Brianna, Sydney, Chelsea, Serena, Travis and Samantha; and great-granddaughter, Veronica; brothers, Hendrik (Coby) and Piet (Riet); sisters, Griet Ruitenburg, Mar van de Vis, Jaantje Doornenbal, and Anna Vergunst; sister-in-law, Gysje Groenendyk; brothers-in-law, Arie Wesdyk (Clary), Leen Wesdyk (Audrey), Henk Wesdyk (Elsie); nieces, nephews and cousins. Simon was born on October 5, 1930 in Rietveld, the Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in May of 1953 and worked as a farm hand for Donald and Evelyn McGillivray in the Pense area. The McGillivrays became part of his family. In 1956 Simon and Jane wed, continued to farm, and purchased the McGillivray homestead in 1972. Simon's life was dedicated to God and to his family. His love and guidance were sought after and appreciated. Simon was active in his church and community, and the farm was always a welcome place for family and friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in his honour at Sonlight Christian Reformed Church, 139 Cannon Street, Regina on Wednesday, March 27, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Charles Kooger officiating. Interment at Cottonwood Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Parkside Extendicare for their kind and compassionate care in Simon's last days. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Simon may be made to the Alan Blair Cancer Centre, 204 - 2775 Pasqua Street, Regina, SK, S4S 9Z9. I have so many great memories of time spent on the farm with your family. Simon was not a man of many words, but the ones he spoke were well thought and wise. His faith was evident in his life and his family.

Joanne, Reg,Taylor and Rachel.
So sorry of your loss, I remember Aaron and Taylor going out to the farm to ski-doo and your parents being so wonderful to those boys.
Also they lived quiet close to us in westhill in their later years.
We will be thinking of all of you at this time and would love to see Taylor if he made it home,We think and often talk of what a great boy he is, and of course miss him.
