Spencer Howard, DDS Obituary
Spencer is an alumnus of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa when he graduated with a B.Sc. in Mathematics. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He remained at the University of North Carolina for his specialty training, earning his certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
After receiving his OMFS certificate, Spencer went into private practice in Durham, North Carolina and was also an adjunct faculty member at the UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry and a sub-specialty physician at Wake Medical Center in Cary, NC. Spencer later practiced oral and maxillofacial surgery at Smile Design Manhattan and North East Implant and Oral Surgery, both in New York.
Spencer was an active member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. He was passionate about his family, friends, his home country of Trinidad and Tobago, soccer, intellectual debate, his work, as well as his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Spencer is survived by his wife of 15 years, Ellison Howard, his three children, Spencer Brian Howard, II (10), Ellison Spencer Howard (8), Essien Spencer Howard (7), his parents, Samuel Howard and Erlene Howard, his twin brother Kris Howard, his sister-in-law, Gizelle Howard, and a host of other family members and close friends. Spencer will truly be missed.

I was a patient of Dr. Howard two years ago. He gave me a new smile I am so thankful for Dr. Spencer Howard. I just heard today that Dr. Howard passed away I was so hurt. He treated me with such respect and understanding . Him and his assistant such good care even to the point of a warm blanket.

Just finding out of Dr. Howard's death almost a year later. I only knew Dr. Howard for a short time but what he did for me during that time changed my quality of life, I only have respect for him. I am sorry he couldn't be my oral surgeon forever. God bless his family and know that he was a wonderful man with great bow ties!

Sitting here at work trying to locate Dr. Howard to make an appointment; and just discovered his passing. I was referred to him on two occasions to remove wisdom teeth; he was simply the best. My heart is truly broken. To his family you have my deepest sympathy; and I will keep you in my prayers.

My condolences go out to the family of Dr. Howard. I was deeply saddened to find out this news. Dr. Howard was an awesome Maxillofacial surgeon. He cared about his patients and always showed up dressed like a GQ fashion model,( to the point I questioned letting this fashion model perform my surgery lol) but seriously he will be missed, this news has broke my heart and I pray that his family stay strong. Your loved one was a true gifted angel!

Words cannot express the sadness Dana and I felt when hearing the news of Spence's passing. Spencer was a great friend and colleague. I'll always look back on our time as residents at UNC with great pride. Spencer was full of life. His passion for the things he loved was infectious and his energy and determination to succeed forced those around him to work harder. From late night rounds at the hospital to later rounds on Franklin St., he could philosophize with poetic ease. Our deepest condolences go out to Elle and his family. His memory will live on in the people who were blessed to know him...

I scrubbed frequently with Dr Howard at WakeMed Cary O.R. & am so sorry to hear of his passing.
Dr Howard was a wonderful technician, always very kind to his team and such a gentle soul. His presence will be greatly missed.
