Stanley Bartlett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 21, 2015.
Stan Bartlett's doctor recently asked him what he likes to do. His response was simple: 'hard work'. Perhaps this was the key to his long, good and simple life. He died peacefully Friday, August 21, 2015 at home with family by his side. He was 88. Stanley W. Bartlett was born August 9, 1927 in Worcester a son of the late Wilbur and Evelyn (Warner) Bartlett. A lifelong resident of Shrewsbury he graduated from the former Maj. Howard W. Beal High School with the class of 1948. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After a relatively short courtship with Louise E. Settle, they married in the First Congregational Church on April 22, 1950 where they remained lifelong members. He was a successful and popular bakery route-salesman for Cushman's Bakery in Lynn, MA, a job he truly enjoyed. He later worked in electrical maintenance at Morgan Construction Company for over 20 years before retiring. Stan's peace and happiness, aside from time with family and friends, was when he was working in his yard or helping a friend or neighbor. He loved being outside, and landscaping his beautiful property on O'Donnell Avenue. He did things the old fashioned way. Whether shoveling his driveway in winter or building stone walls by hand, it kept him active and in shape. In addition to his wife of 65 years, Louise, he leaves his children, Joyce E. Perreault and her husband, Jack of Shrewsbury, Nancy J. Bartlett and her husband, Paul Ruggiero of Braintree, Debora L. Mawdsley and David E. Bartlett, both of Shrewsbury; his grandchildren, Jason Perreault, Andrea Mawdsley, Jonathan Perreault, Jennifer, Laura, Kara and Matthew Ruggiero; his great-grandchildren, Brandon, Andrew, Ethan, Travis, Isabella, Ella and Sofia; also survived by nieces and nephews. In death Stan joins his parents and siblings, Lawrence 'Larry' Bartlett, Edward Bartlett and Marcella Richards. Family and friends will honor and remember Stanley's life by gathering for a calling hour in Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, on Friday, August 28th from 9:00 – 10:45 am and then walking in procession to The First Congregational Church, 19 Church Road where his Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Honor his memory with a contribution to Joslin Diabetes Clinic, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
