I met Stan as a customer in his store in the mid-70s.
In 1978 he hired me as a salesman. He gradually extended my responsibilities to the register and receiving.
Stan always had a concern for his high school and college employees; he cared about our school work and futures.
I still laugh when I remember how he fired me (twice, I think) only to rehire me pretty quickly. I could be a bit of a challenge in those years.
My most recent memories of Stan involved diners. I was thrilled to introduce my wife to Stan and Judy at a Mamaroneck diner. A few years later Nell and I met Stan and Judy at a diner, and I discovered upon asking for the check that Stan had covered our bill.
My last memory of Stan always brings me joy.

Family and friends of Stan-
I just received my Lehigh alumni magazine and I was reminded of Stan (did an internet search) and came upon the sad news of his passing - so recent. My first "real" job was at Murray's on Central avenue. I couldn't have had a better introduction to the world of business. I still tell my friends what a generous and kind man Stan was to his employees and customers. When I applied for the job the rule was women at the register and men worked the floor. I asked to work the floor and he was open to my thoughts - I got the job! (it also helped that I told him I planned to go to Lehigh). I didn't just learn how to sell jeans and camp clothes, I also learned the right way to treat people in a variety of circumstances. I know he will be missed by many, may his memory be for a blessing.

We called him "Cousin Stan" but he was more like an Uncle all these years. Making Cousin Stan laugh was always a goal of mine whenever I saw him and it was always fun hanging out with Stan and Judy when we lived in Westchester. Stan will be greatly missed but his memory will always be a blessing!
