KOMANT, Stanley Emil
1944 - 2014
It is with deep sadness that the family of Stanley Emil Komant announces his unexpected passing on December 6, 2014. Not only was Stan a great father and brother, but a great man and friend to many. Born in Edmonton, Alberta on October 24, 1944, Stan was the second oldest of ten children. He was predeceased by his father Emil Komant, mother Anne (nee Klatt) Baker and daughter Ronna Rimmer. Left behind to celebrate his life are his loving children: Trevor (Denise) Komant, Becky (David) Komant-Habib and Jeff Rimmer; grandchildren: Monique, Kayla, Brittney, Michael, Matthew, Brittney, Selina, Sarah and Rayden; great-grandson Logan. Stan also leaves behind his nine siblings: Alvin (Linda) Komant, Carl Komant, Clarence (Hilda) Komant, Henry (Gloria) Komant, Ron Komant, Art (Lynn) Komant, Marian Gruber (Merv), Vivian Kleemair (Bob), Vernell Tompkins (Rod), numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. After growing up in Alberta, Stan moved west to Kelowna, BC in 1967. He loved life and lived it! In the late '60s to early '70s Stan was a member of the Regatta Ski Team and enjoyed endless hours out on the Okanagan Lake. Moving forward into the '70s and '80s was all about raising a family. The family enjoyed many camping and fishing trips. In the late '70s and into the '80s Stan found another passion, wrist wrestling. Over the years he won seven Canadian Wristwrestling titles and four Tough Man Boxing Competitions. On September 1, 1991 Stan was inducted into the Canadian National Wristwrestling Hall of Fame for all of his hard work and dedication to the sport. In 1989, work took him to Vancouver, BC and he remained there until his passing. Stan had an exceptional work ethic and his strength was always compared to superheroes. He was always there to help family and friends. It was no surprise for him to be the first one on the job and the last one to leave. Those who knew him would always have a hard time keeping up. They called him The Champ! It was his plan to move back home and retire in Kelowna within the next few years. He looked forward to fishing trips with his grandchildren and spending time with all of his family. A Celebration of Stan's Life will be held on Friday, December 19 at 1 p.m. at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 1589 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y 5V7. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com, 250-860-7077.
