Stanley D. Winck

MARION: Stanley Dean Winck, 89, of Marion, Ohio died on October 23, 2016, at Marion Manor Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 7, 1927, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Blair F. and Ruth E. (Young) Winck, he graduated from Mt. Zion High School, Crawford County, in 1946.

He married Emma Mae Schott in 1949, and they worked side by side until her death in 2007.

Growing up, he was a member of the Future Farmers of America, his high school basketball and baseball teams, and his high school band. In the early 1950's, he was a trumpet player and square dance caller in the "Friendly Neighbors" band.

He was not only a farmer, a skilled carpenter, and a Dairy Clipper man, but also a collector and restorer of antiques, including antique vehicles. He worked on many projects around Marion, including the Marion County Historical Society's Heritage Hall. He was a very early, active member of the Edward Huber Memorial Association, helping to preserve Marion's farm history by serving as president, serving on the board, and helping with the construction of the museum.

He had been an active member of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church, then United Methodist Church of Marion (now the Prospect Street United Methodist Church), singing in the choir and serving on the board of trustees.

He is survived by children Patricia (James) Nishimoto of Honolulu, Hawaii; Deborah (Daniel) Conkle of Bloomington, Indiana; and David (Crystal) Winck of Marion; grandchildren Anna (Ashley) Wingert of Boise, Idaho, and Mark Conkle (Claire Gilbert) of St. Paul, Minnesota; great granddaughters Emmalina and Isadora Wingert; step-grandchildren Anne (Ed) Muchow, Julie (John) Black, and Dennis (Heather) Rodman, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Emma, and by his siblings Duane and Elton Winck and Doris Dicks.

The family thanks the staff of Marion Manor for their long years of love and care for Stan. Ohio Health Hospice provided wonderful assistance in the final months of Stan's life.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Friday, Oct.28, at Boyd-Born Funeral Home, 122 W. Columbia St., Marion, Ohio, with the Rev. Joseph Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Bucyrus. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm at the funeral home, Thursday, October 27, and at 10 am on Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Edward Huber Memorial Association, P.O. Box 6010, Marion, OH 43301, to the Prospect Street United Methodist Church, 185 S. Prospect St., Marion, OH 43302, or to Ohio Health Hospice, 1713 Marion-Mt. Gilead Rd., Ste.107, Marion, Ohio 43302.

To the Winck family, Please accept my sincere condolences on the death of our Father........ I, and my family, have SO many happy memories of going to the Crawford County Fair and knowing that your family's dairy truck would be sitting on that same corner. It was a chance to catch up with each other year after year. Your Mom and Dad were the nicest, sweetest people who always made everyone feel welcome. I wish Peace to you all.
