Stephen Borrus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 12, 2021.
Stephen Wayne Borrus, M.D. LAWRENCEVILLE Dr. Stephen Wayne Borrus, 73, of Lawrenceville, NJ, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved by family, friends, colleagues, and patients, he was a pillar of his community where he practiced internal medicine for over 44 years. Born in 1947 in Newark, NJ, to the late Dr. Joseph and Gladys Borrus, he grew up in Edison and attended high school at Rutgers Preparatory School. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester in 1969 and his medical degree at The College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now called Rutgers School of Biomedical & Health Sciences) in 1973. After internal medicine residency training in Miami Beach, FL, he returned to New Jersey in 1976 and joined Lawrence Medical Associates in Lawrenceville, where he practiced medicine right up until his cancer diagnosis in November 2020. He was affiliated with Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where he was the Section Chief of Internal Medicine for many years. He was also a longtime member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians. His family and friends will miss his amazing and unique sense of humor, his calm and gentle manner, and the compassion he showed for everyone he met throughout his life. Given his extraordinary humor, he was invited to be Master of Ceremonies at his hospital's annual awards dinner, an event that he thoroughly enjoyed hosting each year. In addition to his work, Stephen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling to his vacation home in Boca Raton, FL, and cheering on his beloved Dodgers (he remained loyal to them ever since they left Brooklyn when he was a child), Eagles and Vikings. He was beyond thrilled to witness the Dodgers celebrate a championship in 2020. He was also a longtime member of Congregation Brothers of Israel, formerly of Trenton, NJ, and now located in Newtown, PA. Stephen is survived by his wife of 49 years Dorit Borrus, his daughter Dr. Michelle Borrus (Frank) of Bethesda, MD, his son Dr. Daniel Borrus (Ilene) of Princeton, NJ and his five grandchildren: Jenna, Jake, Olivia, Victoria, and Ethan. He is also survived by his sister Kathy Borrus of Washington, DC, his brother Michael Borrus (Audi) of San Francisco, CA, his nephew Josh, and his niece Samantha. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a graveside service on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 will be private. A public memorial service will be planned for a later date when it is safe to do so. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel in Ewing Township, NJ. My husband and I were patients of Dr. Borrus for over thirty years and my mother was also a patient of his when he had just started with Lawrence Medical Associates. My last visit with him was in November of last year. So I was very saddened to hear that he had retired due to Illness. I am a year older than him so I would always say to him please don’t retire. He was so compassionate and caring and a excellent health care provider who will be deeply missed. We are heartbroken since I only found today that he had passed away. Rest in Heavenly Peace Dr. Borrus.
Our sincere condolences to his family.

My mother, husband and I were patients of Dr. Borrus for many years.
His medical care was outstanding and he was a very compassionate doctor. He was truly dedicated to showing his patients that he really cared about their health and their lives. He was a wonderful person.
He called me when he found out that my husband died unexpectedly and he met with me beyond office hours to help me understand my husband's post mortem report.
Dr. Borrus will be missed immensely.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Regards,
Sally Barthelemy-Archer

We love him so much that we tried to get all of our family members and anyone else that we thought would appreciate his professionalism, bedside manner and kindness. We moved to NC a couple of years ago however we still traveled back to NJ for our appointments. We miss him, he can not and will not be replaced, the best Doctor we have ever had!

My sympathies to his family, friends and patients. He was a great doctor and always listened to his patients concerns. He was a friendly man, who laughed easily and made you feel comfortable and cared for while in his presence. He was the only doctor I trusted. I will miss him.
May he rest in peace.

I am broken-hearted at the loss of my doctor of many years, Dr. Stephen Borrus. Dr. Borrus was an exceptional doctor. I am not exaggerating when I say that he managed to save my father, my mother and me. In my case, Dr. Borrus knew on 2 occasions that I needed emergency hospital care when specialists I had seen missed it. Dr. Borrus defined the word, doctor. Equal to his exceptional diagnostic and healing skills was Dr. Borrus’s exceptional kindness and understanding. I loved Dr. Borrus. He was ALWAYS so caring and patient with his patients and me. Over the years, we became friends and that was a privilege. His life ended much too soon when he was about to enjoy the reward of the home he had had built with such care and such excitement with his wife Dorit in Boca Raton. I am having so much trouble accepting that he was taken from us in such an untimely tragic way. He touched and saved so many lives and the final irony is this terrible illness took him with virtually no warning and so quickly. Dr Stephen Borrus was a great man. Laurel and I and Jonathan extend our deepest condolences to Dorit Borrus and the Borrus family.
