Stephen Cooney Obituary
East Lansing
Stephen M. Cooney, age 54, died Wednesday February 16, 2011. He was born May 9, 1956 in Menominee, MI to Ron and Nancy Cooney. Steve was a graduate of Menominee High School and served in the United States Army from 1974-1976 as an MP. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1983.
Steve was married on December 23, 1977 to Maureen Kimberly Lauerman. He worked for General Motors for 32 years. Steve enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, hunting and watching his beloved Green Bay Packers. Steve was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife; children, Brittany, Ryan, Erin (Ben) Johnston, Lauren and his dog Jake; mother Nancy Cooney; four sisters, Michele (Don) Bangert, Teresa (Rick) Roeder, Kathy (Mark) Bayerl, Maureen (Dan) Hass, and their families. He was preceded in death by his father Rolland Cooney, brother-in-law James Lange Lauerman, Jr., and niece Samantha Bangert.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 21, 2011 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing. Family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Lansing, on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. On line condolences may be made at:www.gorslineruncimaneastlansing.com

Kim: I think back to the good old days at GLCC, and the days I played golf with the "KID'S" Steve, Dale, and Phil. Those are still some of the best times I had on a golf course.
Nothing here in Florida comes close.

I worked with Steve at GM Plant 4. I was very sad to learn of his passing. He was a good guy and had a great since of humor. He spoke often of his family, it was obvious he loved them very much. May God bless you in this difficult time.

Kim - Not sure if you remember me, but Rhonda Hume and I were neighbors of you and Steve's in Spartan Village at MSU back around 1980. When we all moved out of MSU I babysat for Brittany and Ryan in your home in East Lansing. I am sorry to hear about Steve's passing, he was so young. He certainly has a family to be proud of!!! I can't even begin to express my feelings of sadness for you and the kids. Trying to imagine how you feel is impossible. I am thinking of you and wishing that we could go back to 1975 just for a short time to experience a much easier way of life than the present hard time you are going through.
