Stephen "Curty" Gilbert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 10, 2025.
Stephen Curtis Gilbert, age 69, of Larkspur, Colorado, tragically passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, following a truck accident in Paris, Texas.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Heather Fennimore of Larkspur, Colorado; his mother, Arda Gilbert; brothers Rex and Mike Gilbert; and sisters Becky Powell, Linda Allen, Marilyn Lot, and Kim Cline, all of Parkersburg, West Virginia. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Steve's loyal dog, Lucy, and his 22 reining horses were also part of the family he held dear.

Born and raised in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Steve graduated from Parkersburg South High School in 1974. He worked as a union ironworker in various locations before pursuing his passion for horses at Meredith Manor Equine Academy, where he graduated in 1984. His career in the equine industry took him to Texas and New York, eventually bringing him back to Meredith Manor as a staff member. It was there that he reconnected with Heather, and the two were married in 1987.

Together, Steve and Heather built Fountainhead Farm in Colorado, where Steve became deeply involved in the reining horse industry. Known for his dedication to the care of his horses, dogs, and the people around him, Steve was a true partner in both life and business with Heather. Their work took them across the country and around the world, growing their respective enterprises and building lasting relationships.

Steve will be remembered as a kind and loving man who never met a stranger. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
