I first met Steve in grade 1 at Margaret Pendlebury school in St. Lambert where he lived at 599 Sanford street. I still live on Logan Street in St. Lambert. We became great friends. We played many sports together including intercity soccer and lots of street hockey!
He was an active boy.
I remember his family, Mr. Doyle, Mrs. Doyle, who passed away so young, Christine, David and Barbara. There dog Chincy? who had a litter of puppies at their home.
My condolences to you all.
RIP my old friend.
Stuart Bennett.

My sincere condolences to Steve's family. Steve and I, and Steve's best friend from Stanstaed Pat Berman, were roommates at Western. It was a bit of a culture shock for this naïve kid from Ontario living with these two, far more worldly, partiers from Quebec, but I survived the year and am thankful for all the great memories.
Thank you, Steve, for your life-loving spirit, your wonderful wit, and your genuine kindness to me. Whether you were acting out Sonny Crockett or singing along with Corey Hart, you were the coolest. And you were always up for something. I remember one late night we scavenged a construction site for two-by-fours and sheets of plywood so you could build a wall in our apartment and turn our dining room into your bedroom. When we got caught by the construction contractor your warmth not only disarmed him but he then offered us the choicest pieces of lumber. And when the building superintendent was none too pleased with our "remodeling", you won him over too. That's because you were real, Steve, a truly beautiful soul.
For years I wanted to reconnect and this morning you popped into my head again. And so I finally decided to track you down, only to be shocked and deeply saddened by your recent passing. I will always remember you as a wonderful and generous friend to me during those years at Western. And as I read the other condolences I see that you were a wonderful and generous friend to many others over the years. Steve, I am not surprised. May you rest in peace, brother. - Mark "Hoove" Lack

My sincere sympathies to Steve´s family for your sudden loss. I knew Steve at Stanstead. He was a year ahead of me. We played on various teams together, and we were class reps together as well. I admired his competitive spirit and good nature. I last saw Steve at a Stanstead reunion in Toronto, we had a great time talking ,laughing and reminiscing about those halcyon days. The Stanstead bond is a special one, and Steve played a big part in many people´s lives at Stanstead. God bless you Steve, may you rest in peace.
Sincerely ,
Sam MacCallum

Steve was 2 grades above me at Stanstead. He looked after the little guys and tolerated zero bullying and harassment. I considered him my friend and mentor and my heart is heavy to learn of his passing. Rest in peace my friend

Steve and I recently reconnected - for which I am so grateful. He will be greatly missed by those of us who saw him as a permanent fixture in the fabric of our lives. I have so many great and (unspeakably) hilarious adventures. I think he made me braver. I know we lived some great life together! Thanks for always keeping it real brother.

Steve was a very likeable rebel whilst a student at Stanstead College. But my memories and interactions with Steve was as his senior soccer coach. Steve was one of Stanstead´s finest soccer players. This is so sad. Gone far too young. Bill Walke

Steve was a likeable rebel at Stanstead College. But I best knew him as one of Stanstead´s finest soccer players. This is so sad. Steve has gone far too early.

So saddened to hear you´re gone. Disbelief is the only word that comes to mind. I´ve attached this picture of my boy Tucker. Steve loved Tucker and Tucker loved Steve. I wasn´t allowed to come over without him. This picture is in my livingroom 14 years later. Whenever I see it, I think of our friendship fondly. Times by the pool, Teutonia and just hanging out. Please take care of each other, I´m sure Shasta and Tucker have welcomed you with open paws.

Steve, there are no words to express how saddened I am to hear that you have gone. It was far too soon. You made a huge impact on this community including years of running your volleyball leagues, great nights at Teutonia Club, Shenanigans at Feelgoods, beers at the DH, etc. From the hockey stick furniture, cork flooring install, building of the above ground pool, to our shared love of Jeeps!! Endless memories and lots of laughs. You will definitely be remembered by many and missed by all. Rest in peace buddy. Until the next time we meet. I hope you have peace. Just remember.....no more than 5 beers Steve! Its downhill after that lol. Lot of love. :) Carrie Czachor xo

I have so many wonderful memories of Steve. He was a force of nature - fiercely loyal, loving, smart, competitive, kind, creative, independent, and fun. So much fun. He could be the life of the party, lighting up the room with his mischievous grin and sparkling eyes, wearing some kind of Habs gear. He was also kind, deep, compassionate and strong. One of his favorite Pearl Jam songs was Light Years, and I can still hear him singing along at Fenway Park:
Your lights reflected now
Reflected from a far
We were but stones
Your light made us stars
I'll remember him walking the beach in Mexico looking for sea glass and shells. He was in his element by the ocean, soaking in the warm breeze, sunshine and roar of the waves.
RIP my friend, you are loved. See you on the other side.

Stephen (Steve) was the life our our house. Stephen came to be friends and eventually a roommate when several of us from Rothesay wanted to save rent by getting a big enough house. Steve joined our group as he needed a place while working in downtown TO. Such a grand sense of humour, quick wit, and a mischievous grin. There were no better summers and weekends that I can recall. Hélène, Eric, Steve, and I with all our friends that would just drop by and suddenly we had an event! Great memories.

My most sincere condolences to his family and close friends and all who knew him. There are too many good memories to share. I loved you so much my friend and I know you loved me too and I'm glad we told each other that too; and often after every late night call. Thank you especially for being my rock since JY died 2yrs ago. RIP my dear friend. You'll always be loved and sorely missed is a gross understatement. Say Hi to Jean-Yves for me, give him a hug and rock on my friend. XX
