Stephen LOMAX Obituary

LOMAX, Captain Stephen James
November 17, 1951 – September 1, 2015
With great sadness we announce the passing of Captain Stephen Lomax after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Shelley; children Chelsea, Dylan, Tanner; stepchildren Lincoln and Jessica; siblings Elsie (Ernie), Barbara, John (Yanina) and Lance (Anita); and many nieces and nephews. Born in Bury, Lancashire in 1951, Stephen and his family emigrated to North Vancouver, Canada, in 1957. Returning to England, he joined the British Merchant Navy as a deck boy in 1969. After four years working deep sea, mostly with the Union Castle Line, he earned an Able Seaman's Certificate, and returned to Canada, where he joined BC Ferries shortly after on the Tsawwassen Swartz Bay run. Before the onset of his illness prematurely ended his career in 2006, Stephen earned a Masters position on board the Queen of New Westminster, and was a proud and loyal employee. Stephen was a kind, caring, compassionate person. His passing has left a void in our family, which we will fill with all the positive memories we have of our times with him. At Stephen's request there will be no public memorial; however, the family would be very appreciative of donations to the MS Society in honour of his memory.

I am so saddened to know of Steve's passing. My condolences to the family. We went to elementary school together and re-established a friendship many years later. We were able to share thoughts, dreams, ideas together which was a special treasure among men friends. I will miss you dear friend.
