Stephen Michael Scrivener was born January 29, 1992 in Tampa, Florida to Greg and Mary Scrivener. He passed away December 25, 2014, at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa at the age of 22. We will have Celebration of Life on January 31, 2015 at the Ellenton Ice & Sports Complex, 5309 29th Street East, Ellenton, FL 34222, from 5-7 pm. We invite you to join us for food, refreshments and to celebrate Stephen’s wonderful life. Stephen would want you to dress casual and bring something warm to wear for the cold such as a hockey jersey or jacket. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stephen’s name to a charity of your choice or you may bring a covered dish.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of Stephen. I had the pleasure of being his tech during his month long stay at Moffitt. In the 3 years I have worked at Moffitt, Stephen was one of the few patients that I'll truly never forget. Despite his bad days and his pain, he still always managed to flash a smile or crack a joke whenever I'd come in the room. Ill never understand why cancer takes the lives of such young incredible people. Rest in peace, Stephen. You will never ever be forgotten. Hugs to your mom and dad who never left your side!!!

Stephen successfully reached lifetime goals. He earned a college academic scholarship in high school. He was a team member in football and ice hockey clubs. He was on a path for future professional medical service. Our family lost a talented and wonderful young man.

Greg and Mary,
Stephen will linger in my memory for many years. In the short amount of time I spent with him at the University of New England, I saw an individual who made the most of every opportunity. His outlook serves as a wonderful example to his student peers at our university, and he will be dearly missed.

Greg and Mary,
I cannot tell you how sorry I am that the world lost a beautiful soul in Stephen. I was lucky enough to see him while he was at Moffitt and get to hug him one last time. He was a great person and I was lucky to get to know him both on and off the ice. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him. You and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. and Mrs. Scrivener, my deepest condolences to the family. I had been a fellow teammate and a friend to Stephen during his year with the Washington Junior Nationals. It was truly an honor to have him among us, and he brought more than a positive impact on the team. I hope that he enjoyed his Juniors with us, as we have enjoyed having him as part of our family in this organization. Stephen was an intelligent, polite and generous young man. He was truly a marvelous role model to us all. Words cannot express the pain and sorrow of me and his fellow teammates and friends have felt for him. My prayers are with you, and may he rest knowing that as much of a great hockey player as he was a great person, he has impacted us all in a very, positive manner. I will always treasure the memory of being able to play hockey with such a wonderful person.
My deepest condolences,
Sean DeVarennes

Greg and Mary,
There are no words to express how sorry we are with the loss of Stephen. Stephen was a remarkable young man who made an impression on everyone he met. Some people can live their whole lives and not make the impression that Stephen made on people in his short life. You are in our thoughts and prayers each and every day.

Greg and Mary, my deepest sympathy to you. Stephen was a terrific young man. He was a cherished member of our hockey family. My earliest memory of him was as five year old with a passion for the game in the first mini-mite group. He will be missed.

Greg & Mary: I never met your young man but for the better part of 20 years I've heard you talk about him, and it would light up your face. I am so sorry that he has been taken away from you in the prime of his life. The holidays are dark and dreary right now and I hope the New Year will bring you peace. You're in my prayers.
