Steve Bloom Obituary

Published by Chicago Tribune on Mar. 2, 2022.
Steve Bloom, age 62, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022. Steve is survived by his devoted mother, Agnes Stephan, adored stepfather, Phil Stephan, sister Laurie Bloom (John Davies), brother Sam Stephan, and loving nephews and cousins. His cousin, Scott, was his lifelong loyal friend. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Fred Bloom. For many years, Steve enjoyed his work as a CNC machinist; was a certified ASE Auto Mechanic; and was a credentialed HVAC technician. These hands-on vocations had their genesis as a small child when he was constantly building model rockets, cars, and planes. Several years ago, a cervical injury prevented him from ever attaining his previous excellent health. He accepted this adversity with the same equanimity that he showed in most aspects of his life. During his last few years of declining health, he would repeatedly express his love and appreciation for his family. Of course, being Steve, he would also let you know if he was dissatisfied! That said, anyone who truly knew Steve saw his basic sweetness and loving and forgiving nature. Right up until the last few days, Steve's absolute favorite thing was to drive his much-loved sporty coupe while singing along to his beloved doo-wop. "In the Still of the Night" we'll always remember "Little Darlin'." To honor Steve, donations can be made to the Coalition for the Homeless, chicagohomeless.org. Private service and interment arrangements have been entrusted to Lakeshore Jewish Funerals, 773-625-8621

He sounds like somebody I served with in the Army in Germany in 1988. Could this be him?

when I lost you I lost my best friend! I lost the only person that knew me and helped me and loved me and Lilli unconditionally! I wouldn't be where I am if you weren't there for us! All you ever wanted was for me to finish school. Get my certification! I couldn't disappoint you! In honor of your faith in me I finished! I can hear you now "I knew you could do it sweet pea!" I will always and forever love you! I will always and forever hear your voice telling me how strong I am and how you never gave up on me....as sad as I am now that your gone, I know your in a better place, and I know you will forever watch over us! Thank you for always being my best friend, my family! No one can ever take your place! The only thing that makes me feel close to you now is when I listen to our doo op song and sit by our Give love now wall!
