Steve Hancock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 15, 2024.

Steven Loren Hancock, 64, passed away suddenly on July 8, 2024. Steve lived in the rural foothill community of Wonder Valley outside of Sanger CA. with his wife, the love of his life Neenah.

Steve was born in Tacoma WA on October 27, 1959, to the late Loren and Elaine Hancock. He grew up in Tacoma with his three siblings Lori, Tim and Shari. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1978, he worked for a short time with his Uncle Larry at Tam Engineering. Steve and his Dad, Loren shared a mutual admiration and respect for each other, Steve soon followed in his Dad and mentors' footsteps, beginning his long career as a Truck Driver in 1979. Steve and his former wife, Tracy raised their three children Brian, Julie and Steven in Puyallup WA.

A Truck Driver for over 45 years, Steve was highly respected in the industry. Known as LB (Lunch Box) in the trucking world, he would have been truly honored and humbled to hear himself referred to by his fellow truck drivers as a "Legend". LB truly loved the camaraderie and brotherhood in the trucking community and cherished the friendships he had forged over the years.

Starting his career as an over the road (OTR) driver, he eventually transitioned to Transfer/Dump truck driving, working for several outfits in Pierce County WA, most notably Miles Sand & Gravel, Stowes Construction and T Barger Dirt Works. After moving to California in 2019 he drove for KKW Trucking as an OTR driver, allowing him the opportunity while on the road to spend time with family in Washington, caring for his mother during her last years and sharing time with his children and grandchildren every chance he got. Steve (LB) enjoyed these last years OTR trucking, driving through the Western States, often reminiscing back to the days when he was a small child and would go OTR trucking with his Dad, he truly cherished the fond memories of travelling over the same roads and through the same areas.

Steve always had a passion for fast cars and motorcycles. He felt pride to be able to share that passion not only with his Son Steven, but also with his Uncle Larry, who he had great respect for. He was especially proud of the last project they completed together, the restoration of his 1964 Plymouth Sports Fury. Steve always enjoyed going to car shows, he was looking forward to sharing his passion of old cars and his passion for history with his grandkids.

When Steve (LB) was not on the road trucking, he enjoyed the quiet peaceful life at his home in the country. When not working on Neenah's never-ending Honey Do List, he would enjoy the sunny days relaxing in the pool in all his glory. He enjoyed the sunsets and starry nights with a glass of Jack. He loved to grill and barbeque for family and friends. He loved watching old Western movies and war History shows. Steve always embraced to Live well, Laugh often and Love much.

Steve loved his family and cared deeply for his friends, he always made and effort to stay in contact with them, recognizing and celebrating birthdays, milestones and achievements or simply just taking the time to check in and chat.

Steve was a loving husband, dad, papa, brother, and friend. He was kindhearted, compassionate and had empathy, often putting the feelings of others over his own, he was non-judgmental, always choosing to see the good in people. Steve was a man of integrity and had a 'calming effect' about him. Simply put, Steve was a "Good Man".

Family and friends recently gathered to celebrate and honor Steve's life at both his home in California and in Yelm WA.

Steve is survived by his loving wife Neenah. His children; Brian (Joey), Julie (Eric), Steven (Jessica). Stepsons; John, Joseph (Casey), grandchildren; Brody, Sophie, Parker, Haydn, Rylie and Cole. Sister; Shari (George), nephews; Ryan (Avery), Mathew. Uncle Larry (Deanna) and Cousin Beverly. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Loren and Elaine Hancock, siblings Lori and Tim, and godparents Wayne and Yvonne Koecke.

To My Loving Husband,

It has been one year since I lost you, I have missed you every minute of every day. My heart is still so broken but healing.

I know you are still with me in spirit; I feel your presence; it truly gives me comfort and strength to continue through this journey of healing and finding peace.

Babe, I will forever be grateful for the time we had together and the love we shared, I will forever cherish our memories.

I love you forever and always,

Your Loving Wife

Steve, thanks for being my best buddy for life. I will always remember the moment we became friends, a gesture of kindness on your part, it is your nature. We learned a lot about life together in our early escapades, as teenagers, and on. Mostly good, mostly fun. As you know, I have many stories, I promise to stick with the good ones. I could always make you laugh, loved your laugh. Hopefully I will hear it again one day. That´s the plan. Give Mom and Dad a hug for me, my brother.
May your tail lights lead the way
