Steve Vick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2025.
Steve passed away on July 24, 2025 in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Steve was born March 18, 1941 in Tampa Florida, into a military family. He grew up on Air Force bases around the U.S. eventually graduating from high school in 1959 from Newcastle High School in Newcastle Wyoming. He then entered the U.S. Navy and trained as a photographer and motion picture photographer. He was stationed in a mobile photo group and was sent worldwide. After four years he was discharged honorably and moved to southern California where he worked as a photographer and attended community college at night. Eventually he transferred to the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he graduated with a degree in English and a teaching credential in 1970.

He taught high school English in central California for nine years before moving to Klamath Falls. Here he worked for four years as a counselor at the County Juvenile Department, five years for the State Children's Services Division as a caseworker, before returning to education, first as a special education teacher, then as a special education coordinator. He also received his Master's Degree in special education from Western Oregon University. He retired in 2001.

Steve enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and hunting. He and his wife Cathy traveled the mountain west, occasionally venturing to other countries. No matter where he traveled, Steve always loved returning to Klamath Falls. He never wanted to live anywhere else.

Steve appreciated his opportunity to help others as a Search and Rescue volunteer for eleven years, and as a Red Cross Disaster Responder.

He is survived by his wonderful wife Cathy; son, Erik and his wife Michelle; son, Tyler, grandchildren Camden and Addison; Lauren Vick; stepdaughter Jenny and her husband Jason, grandchildren Henry and Abby; stepson Mike and his wife Kara; adopted daughter Elisha Howe, and grandchildren Mona and Mason. They and their families made Steve rich indeed.
