Steve graduated from Canandaigua Academy and furthered his education at Alfred State University. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps and was a veteran of Desert Storm. He also was the owner of Scherer Stove and Chimney in Canandaigua, NY.

Steve, a loving father and son, was known for his kindness and adventurous spirit. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing, motorsports, skiing, and everything outdoors.

Steve was a member of the Seneca Yacht Club, former commander of the Geneva American Legion, and cofounder of the Pallbearers Motorcycle Club.

Steve is survived by his children, Brian and Shannon Scherer; his parents, Linda and Bruce Scherer; his sister-in-law, Christine Scherer; his nephew, Cory Scherer and many other beloved family members.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Darin Scherer; cousins, Jennifer Simpson, Kelly Spriull, and Annalise Johnson; as well as his maternal grandparents, Wilton and Kathrine Wickes and his parental grandparents, Marjorie and Robert Scherer.

A "Calling Hours" service will be held at the Geneva American Legion on Saturday, March 23rd, from 3-5 pm. His Memorial will take place at the NY State Veterans Cemetery near Sampson State Park on July 13th, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Seneca Yacht Club. Times to be determined.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Seneca Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Rest in peace, Steve. Your bravery, kindness, sense of adventure, and love for the outdoors will forever be remembered.

Steve, I just found out yesterday of your motorcycle accident at a family picnic. I didn´t know. I´m sorry. We loved each other once and I keep a portion of that love in my heart to this day. You gifted me my most treasured possession..my first Bible. God bless you for that. I will not forget you. Xo

Steve, I am so distraught hearing of your passing. Many hours fishing together sun up to sundown. I will think of you every time I´m on the water. Your friend Taylor.

Steve- I don´t know where to begin. From the time we met as Jr High kids, to your kindness, your jokes and antics throughout high school. We play touch for a while as adults, but we were able to renew our friendship recently. I´m going to miss long motorcycle rides with you leading the way. I´m going to miss the weekends, the fun and the laughter you brought into my life. You were and always will be my true friend, my brother, my mediator, my dancing partner, my Tank. I love you and I´m going to miss you for the rest of my life. Fly high and ride free.
