Steven Schmid Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2025.
Steven Robert Schmid, age 36, passed away on March 9, 2025, in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Born on April 25, 1988, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Steven brought a sense of playfulness and an unshakable loyalty to those who knew him best. He was a true blue friend.

Steven's early years were spent in Elm Grove, Wisconsin, where he attended Tonawanda Elementary School. His family later moved to Fairfield, Ohio, where he continued his education at Sacred Heart School, graduating with his 8th grade class in 2002. He returned to Milwaukee to attend Marquette University High School and graduated in 2006. Steven went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of North Dakota in 2010.

Throughout his life, Steven combined his love for sports with a strong work ethic and generous spirit. He worked at numerous golf courses both near the University of North Dakota and later in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. His passion for golf was evident in his personal achievements as he was a scratch golfer who, as a member of the Marquette University High School Golf Team, helped lead the team to the Wisconsin State Golf Tournament and earned First Place All Conference.

Steven later brought his leadership skills and dedication to Menards stores in and around Minneapolis-St. Paul as an Assistant Manager. Known for always going above and beyond expectations, Steven was admired by colleagues for his willingness to pitch in wherever needed and for supporting the people he worked with.

Beyond his professional accomplishments and athletic talents, Steven was known for his kindness and generosity. He had an empathic spirit which made him a good friend to many. Whether playing sports with friends or attending outdoor rock concerts-another of his passions, Steven embraced life with enthusiasm and warmth.

He shared a bond with two sweet dogs, Graham the Poodle and Angel the family Schnoodle. Their presence brought him comfort, companionship and playfulness.

Steven is survived by his loving parents, Marsha and Bob Schmid; his younger sister Laura (Max), cousins Joe Leskovar, Dan Leskovar, Ryan Johnson, and Evan Dorsel. Also important in Steven's life is Tyler Graf, MUHS Golf Team mate and good friend. As teammates, Tyler and Steven made each other better. The team benefitted as a result.

Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Anna Schmid and Herb and Anne Johnson, as well as his uncle Bill Schmid.

Those who knew Steven will remember him as a smart, talented young man whose gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met. May his strong, and loyal spirit linger forever in our hearts.
