Steven Lee Thompson

Steven Lee Thompson, 57, of Maple Grove, formerly of Willmar, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.The service will be 1 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar.Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar is handling arrangements.He was born Dec. 18, 1951, in Mankato to William and Mabel (Born) Thompson. His family moved to Fairmont in 1963 and to Willmar in 1968. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1970 and from the Willmar VoTech College in 1972 with a degree in drafting and technical design. He later lived in Crystal and Fridley where he worked for a temp service.He married Mary Paul on Aug. 8, 1981, in St. Cloud. They lived in Maple Grove. They divorced in 2007. He worked for 20 years as a supervisor of ship boiler manufacturing for DelTak. He was a member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association and owned and raced drag cars for several years in the 1970s.He is survived by two sons: Brent Thompson and Alex Thompson, both of Maple Grove; and his mother of Willmar.He was preceded in death by his father in 1994.
