Steven Whipple Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 14, 2004.
Steven Albert WHIPPLE Age 64. Born December 14, 1939, died November 4, 2004 at home surrounded by family after a fourth bout with cancer. He attended Lincoln High School, graduated from Seattle University in 1963, and did graduate studies at the U. of W. He would later teach in the Philosophy department, Senior Honors, and Executive Thinking Programs at S.U. during the late 60's and early 70's before leaving to spend the rest of his career in the grocery industry. Prior to his retirement in July 2003, he spent the last 10 years as an official with UFCW Local 1105, serving as Secretary-Treasurer, Assistant to the President, and as the Labor Trustee to the Executive Committees for both Appeals and Investment, as well as the Treasurer of District Council 17. Steve was a man of keen intelligence, great integrity, and wry wit. He shared his gifts freely throughout his life, and happily maintained his wonderful sense of humor until the very end. He will be greatly missed by the love of his life, Sally, his wife of 41 years; his sons Peter, Andrew (Anne), and Joshua, his grandchildren Mishu, Molly, Andrea, and Maxwell, and his sisters Judy Kutyna and Peggy Whipple, as well as his many friends and colleagues. A Celebration of his life will be held 2 o'clock Sunday, Nov. 21st in the Walker-Ames Room of Kane Hall on the U.W. campus. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in his honor can be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Puget Sound Blood Center, or Medic One.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Whipple family. We know Steve is in a better place, but we also know that losing a loved on is very difficult. We feel fortunate to have known Steve.
