Stewart Whiteside

Whiteside, Stewart Wesley Resident of Lachen, Switzerland. Stew died October 20 after a courageous struggle with cancer. Stew graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul with a degree in history. He served two years in Vietnam with the Marine Corps, seeing much combat and setting up a computerized system for tracking materials. He then spent one year as chief of embassy guards in Frankfurt, Germany. From 1972 to 1992 he worked for Control Data in a variety of positions, most recently as designer of the service processor for the Cyber 2000. In 1992 he joined GFTA in Dusseldorf, Germany. In 1999 he moved with GFTA to the Zurich area of Switzerland. It was with GFTA that he found his most rewarding work, designing and implementing the currency and stock modeling systems that are the core of GFTA's business. He was chief of Information Technology and Vice-President of GFTA. Preceded in death by parents Paul and Carrie Whiteside. He is deeply missed by wife, Diana Davies; and their three daughters, Heather, Kerry, and Maya; brothers, Everett, Norman and Lowell Whiteside; sister, Lois Viguier; parents-in-law, John and Ida Davies; sisters-in-law, Deb Whiteside, Anne Whiteside and Wanda Davies; and brothers-in-law, Michel Viguier, Richard Sommer and David Sommer. Funeral and burial will be held October 25 at 10 AM in Lachen, Switzerland. At the funeral, daughters Heather, Kerry and Maya will sing some of Stew's favorite songs. Stew will be remembered for his devotion to wife Diana and his three daughters, and to his commitment to his work for GFTA. Memorials to organizations promoting peace among individuals, peoples, and nations. Stew was always a peacemaker.
