Stu was the most giving person I have ever met. It didnt matter who it was he would extend his hand to help them. He could change the mood of any bad moment just by smiling and listing. The Kindest man I knew. It was my privillage to have known Stu, worked with Stu and called him my Best Friend.. I MISS YOU BROTHER...

Stu and I shared a lot of laughs while working together, I know he was a great mentor to many, a talented welder and mechanic and an out of the box thinker. He will be missed by many and remembered fondly.

Stuart was my best friend. He was such a kind and giving man. He loved life and tried to make the best of every moment and situation. Always thinking of others over himself. About a day or so after Stu was diagnosed with cancer, he and I were on the phone, I was a mess he was joking around. Trying to make me feel better. I said to him, tell me what you want to do? We can go anyplace do anything Name it. and we will do it. He said, with a smile, Make you a Welder. I said what I always say. " I don't have a low enough IQ". LOL. It's a standing joke among welders and fitters. We laughed and then Stu got serious and said, James I want to spend the last 6- or 7-months teaching as many apprentices as I can, how to be some of the best welders the UA has. Helping them and their family's some financial stability. I just smiled and said, I bet you do. Unfortunately, Stuart didn't get the chance to make this happen as the Cancer took his life in just a few short months. I know without a doubt that Stuart Porter made a lasting impact on anyone who knew him. And as far as Apprentices, he helped hundreds achieve success.
I will miss you My Friend, Until we meet again...

Stu was a fellow brother and member of Local 38, that I had the privilege of working with him in the Geysers geothermal fields back in the early 1980s. We connected when I was doing a lot of Tig welding on stainless steel. He hadn´t done a lot at that time, but as we worked together I shared my knowledge of it and he caught on so fast. He had that creative ability that not many people can grasp. We became very good friends over the years. He taught me many things over time. I was especially great full for what he did for me and my family when the Union work was slow. We did a lot of work together back in the day. He was truly one of the most influential persons in my life! Rest in peace my brother. Michael Sullivan.

Stuart is a fine Life, cut way to short of it's ability to spread it's kindness and love throughout its orbit of friends and beyond. He was dealt a poor hand and I'm so sad that he, and we, were not able to spend more time together. I will miss him terribly and hope to continue to connect with others who were fortunate to have embraced his soul, in all its facets. Sending love and light to you Stuart.
