Sue McBrayer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 28, 2013.
Sue Haley McBrayer, age 74, passed away peacefully with family by her side in Albuquerque on November 13, 2013. She is survived by her two sons, Troy Prichard of Albuquerque and Bruce Prichard of Las Cruces, her grandchildren, Jacob Smith Prichard and Brooke Haley Prichard of Albuquerque, and Joshua Allen Prichard and Chase Alexander Prichard of Las Cruces, as well as her younger sister Dianne Smith of Las Cruces, and Dianne's son Jason Smith, also of Las Cruces. Sue was preceded in death by her parents Finis and M. Lee Haley, her older brother William Haley, her older sister Margaret Haley and her beloved husband and life partner in love, William McBrayer. Born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Sue and her family moved to Las Cruces in the mid 1950's, and Sue has ever since been quite happy and proud to call Las Cruces home. Sue was always happiest when she was in the company of her family and close friends. An honors graduate of Las Cruces High School, New Mexico State University and Colorado State University, Sue enjoyed and took great pride in excelling at most anything she ever ventured into, including music (she was an accomplished oboist), dancing, teaching and counseling. She retired from her counseling career at NMSU in 2005. Sue will be greatly missed and remembered most for her genuine warmth and sincere happiness and loyalty amongst her family and close friends. A memorial celebration of Sue Haley McBrayer's life will occur on Sunday, December 1, 2013 between 2 and 4 pm in the atrium of the Ramada Palms (aka Holiday Inn de Las Cruces). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Sue's name to the Alzheimer's Association of New Mexico.

Sue and I worked together for Career Services. I began my career in July 1985 and to my luck we shared an office for over a year, traveled to conferences and became life long friends. I was with Sue the very moment Bill first laid eyes on her. We were out after attending a play at NMSU. Sue was a great mentor and friend to me. I attest to her kindness, love of her work, love of Bill and her family. The world is a better place because Sue was part of it. Love to all her family for I have heard many wonderful stories of the love she had for all of you.

Fondly,
Roseanne Lidle Bensley

Today at our Thanksgiving dinner, the kids and I will remember all the special times we shared with Sue, all the long conversations, all the embraces and the fun we had with this special lady. Her grandchildren: Briaun, Brishel, Jacob and Brooke miss her dearly. I'll never forget our recent conversation and the "I love you's." May you rest in peace and I'm so happy you'll be reunited with the love of your life, Bill. Love all of us: Leslie, Briaun, Brishel, Jacob and Brooke
