Susan "Susie" Kay Borne (Bornemeier)

October 23, 1946 - October 18, 2024

Susan "Susie" Kay Borne (Bornemeier) passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska, just days before her 78th birthday.

Born on October 23, 1946, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Susie was the daughter of Kenny and Irene Bornemeier. She graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After college, Susie embarked on an adventurous career, beginning as a flight attendant for Continental Airlines. Her travels eventually led her to Seattle, where in 1980, she and her husband, Chuck, opened the first coffee cart in the city, the Monorail Espresso, an iconic business that continues to thrive today.

A passionate athlete, Susie was an avid runner and cyclist, participating in numerous marathons, triathlons, and bike rides, including the Ironman Triathlon. Her love of adventure also took her on countless cycling trips around the world, creating cherished memories along the way.

Known for her infectious energy and zest for life, Susie made lasting friendships, particularly with a close group of high school girlfriends. She treasured the time spent on trips and adventures with them, always bringing her joy and laughter to every moment.

A devoted animal lover, Susie cared for many cats and dogs throughout her life, all of whom were spoiled and loved dearly. Susie treated them like family and gave them the same warmth and affection she shared with everyone in her life.

Susie is survived by her brother, Gary Bornemeier of Plattsmouth, NE; her niece, Abbi (Casey) Smith of Plattsmouth, NE; her niece, Elli Borne of Lincoln, NE; and numerous extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and other loved ones.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the ASPCA.

Susie will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, adventure, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Tom crosbie met her in Denver, she had just began her career with Continental as a stewardess. She was so easy to fall in love with. I still finally remember our short time together.

Susie and I had great times together on many weekend outings hiking, biking , many rubbers of bridge with my Sara and Chuck. She would spoil us by bringing quarts of lattes. Always full of gaiety. The world wasn´t big enough to contain her spontaneity! She was a very special unique creation.

So many wonderful
adventures, Susie and I enjoyed together. My favorite was rafting the remote Owyhee River of SE Oregon together.
