Susan Donahue Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 17, 2025.
Susan Marie Donahue, 75, of Herriman, UT, cherished wife and soulmate of Gerald P. Guay, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2025, after a three-year struggle with stage-4 lung cancer.

She was born on May 9, 1950, in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Joseph Donahue and Mary (Klapatch) Donahue. A graduate of Manchester High School, Class of '68, Susan went on to earn an Associate's in Computer Technology & Programming at Hartford State Technical College in '70, and later pursued studies in Graphic Design at MCC in 2001.

Susan worked at the CT Department of Health (1970-1972), then worked as a computer programmer and analyst at the Department of Environmental Protection, Air Compliance Division (1972-1979). Her work and contribution were crucial and significant in the startup of the new department shortly after the EPA's formation.

After marrying Gerry in November 1980, Susan soon wanted to start a family of their own. This was followed by the births of two sons: Daniel and Timothy. She was a devoted mother and tirelessly guided them to adulthood. Sue was a creative person and enjoyed creating stained glass windows, lamps, and boxes, painting little wood characters and buildings, and many other crafts. She designed the makeover of the family kitchen and always had creative ideas for design improvements to the house.

Her love of animals began early with her lifelong friend Sandy's horses and continued with her own beloved horse, Royal. Over the years, she shared her home with many loyal dogs, a cat, and even a few birds.

Our family would like to extend our deep gratitude to her medical team at Huntsman Cancer Institute for their exceptional dedication and care extended to Sue during her long battle with cancer. She loved baking treats for her team members. We are also in deep appreciation of her Huntsman Hospice Team which showed great compassion and dedication to her comfort and care in her last days. Thank you.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary, and her brother, Stephen. She is survived by her husband, Gerry; her sons, Dan (Geanna) and Tim; her sister, Joanie; and her beloved French bulldogs, Simon and Dixie.

A private service will be held.

The love of my life, my wife, my compass, my answer, my Sue for 45 happy years is now at rest. No more struggles with cancer, no more pain, you are now at peace. The emptiness you left behind will be filled with your spirit each and every day. You are still with us in our thoughts and memories and forever in our hearts. Love you and miss you, Gerry

Gerry-I was so sad to see your post. Sue gave me a white Christmas cactus when leaving Manchester. I think of her alot especially when it blooms! Just last week and before I saw your post, I saw a bud on it-very unusual at this time of year! It´s still there, pictured below. Maybe she was saying goodbye! I´ve enjoyed seeing her posts on Facebook and even got done of her recipes. Sending my most sincere condolences

Sue fought her 3 year battle with lung cancer with such a positive attitude, admirable strength and grace. Over the past couple years on our 45 minute drives to/from Huntsman Cancer Center, we shared laughter, honest conversations, and a growing bond that I will always treasure. We connected over our love for crafting, baking, and her son Dan . She took me under her wing as "the daughter she always wanted but didn´t want to raise." I´ll miss her frankness, her warmth, and the unique friendship we built. Sue, you were more than a mother-in-law-you were my bonus mom, and I will miss you!

I'm glad I got to visit one last time for Mother's Day. It was a nice visit. I'm glad you got to see my painting FINALLY completed. (Thanks to Carolyn & Bill for helping to make that happen). I feel like I've known you my whole life (haha). I will miss you.

Mom- soon you will hang out here with the wild horses. We'll miss your funny comments about Dad, your endless making of baked goods (though we all may lose 10lbs), you winning in Rummikub most of the time (I think Dad MAY have a chance in winning now) , our trips to Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse, and all of your "Oh Boy!"s when food was delivered to the table, the "DONT LOOK AT HIM!"s when we walked into the house so Simon wouldn't pee all over the floor, and the "virtual hugs" when you were going through treatments.
I hope you rest in peace with all of your past puppies.

Prayers to the family at the sad news of Sue's passing.
I want to say I remember one of the first times I met her. She had her trans am and took me for a ride from Vernon to Manchester on 84. I remember hitting 130 before we slowed down. I'm like wow this is cool. Good times. You will sorely missed.
