Susan Kirsch Obituary
Reflecting on Susan's life there are so many things that stand out about her. She truly was a kind person, she was the world's friend and Susan was always relentless in her passion for others whether she knew you or not.
Susan spent her career as a Psychiatric LCSW and gave all she had so that her clients felt validated in this world.
She had strong beliefs and voiced them when others couldn't or wouldn't. Yes, many times she was misunderstood but she was never fazed by how others perceived her; Susan's drum beat was her own.
Susan loved reading quietly in her own space, she loved lectures and culture, she loved walking cities and neighborhoods with her husband; embracing the sights, sounds, the beauty and the not so beautiful aspects of each place and experience explored. She was all about having fun and in the 62 years that she and her husband were together, fun they had!
I believe that we could all learn something from the way Susan lived her life!
Susan's life will be celebrated and honored in two of her favorite places, Cape May County, NJ and Miami, FL.
Our Ramona, we love you and miss you so!

When Lincoln Road Mall was largely deserted we were there
along with the occasional tourist. You would caution about safety.
Collins Ave. below fifth was full of small abandoned hotels and "pulmanettes."Villa Luisa among others comes to mind.Lots of feral cats;few people.
We would walk downtown Miami;a ghost town save for the homeless especially at night.
Calle ocho another favorite along with the Tower Theatre.
We were always fearless.
Places on the cusp of revival and rediscovery were our forte and always cherished in memory which is infinite.

Back in the eighties we heard Darryl Hannah take a shot at Wildwood N.J in the movie Wall Street.Neither of us had ever heard of the place.
In short order we discovered it.
While the town was down on its luck your vision saw the promise.We embraced it as you did of all Cape May county.
Fast forward very shortly thereafter it was back on the map.
Our life in South Beach struck a similar note.
New York in the sixties right up to the early nineties was similar..
We called these and other places home.
You would often state that we had secured these places to which we would retire ,and all the better,at an early age.

I cannot think of a better person on whom to dwell all thought.

us.Frank was as always a mover and shaker of the events.
Alex was finding his depth at the Metropolitan Playhouse.
In the early 2000s we were invited to a reception celebrating the publication of a Marvin Carlson scholarly work.
Alex could not help commenting how " tony" you looked.He was right.
The theatre types present were dressed in their 1970s tousled attire,looking as academic as possible.
As was his won't Frank would speak about "the page to the stage" and "linking academia to the arts."
Karen Malpedes' name among others was mentioned.
As a wizened old man these are but a few of my memories.

Dearest Susan,
Easily we were poster children for South Beach, you were fond of saying.
Lincoln Road mall was largely deserted . South Pointe Park still stabled some horses.Few people except for dance concerts which were very entertaining. Dom Perrignon was group performing old rock and roll .Ocean Drive and Lummus park had a fair share of homeless and derelicts. Collins Ave had a lot of abandoned buildings.
south of fifth.The jewish museum was an abandoned building at the time.
Romping all over was made all the richer with you.

Reverence for scholarship never impeded your equal affinity for popular culture.
A capacity to put an original interpretation on any of the works of literature you studied could and often would gain the attention of the savants .
It was equally true of history, politics,etc.
The knowledge and insight you imparted to others is both timeless and everlasting.

Diamond Beach
The long walk from the light house to Cape May City
Leaming Run Gardens.
Walking all the towns from Atlantic City to the ferry.
These just touch the surface of an encyclopedia of memories of but one place.

Dear Susan,
Seeing your name in my phone contacts, I called your number today. I was shocked, and deeply saddened, to hear from Bruce of your passing. Seeing your photo, I find myself flooded with rich memories of how beautiful your presence meant to me. While it has been said that your compassion for others (whether it may be friends, co-workers, clients, people you just met, or society at large), your friendship had a special meaning to Palma and myself. As you remember, you and I first met as colleagues at SBPC in the early 1980´s. I was immediately taken in by your humanity, sincerity, and your ingrained desires to assist those in need. It didn´t take much effort for the two of us to develop a friendship, and we shared much of what life has to offer (joys, disappointments, stories of our families, and so much more). Your deep friendship greatly consoled me at some of my darkest hours, and your smile brought extra brightness at happier times. I have been immensely blessed by having you in my life. I truly regret that we have lost touch, over the past few years; and that I was not able to be with you, as you were for me.
