Susan Olmsted Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2010.
Susan Jean Olmsted, 53, passed from us on Friday, August 20, 2010, at home surrounded by family and friends following a courageous seven year battle with cancer.

Susan was born May 29, 1957, in Burbank, California to John and Norma Haines, the youngest of five children - two brothers and two sisters. She eventually moved to Palos Verdes where she gained a wonderful step-father, Larry Silva and another sister, Cheryl. There she grew up, discovered a love of acting and graduated from Miraleste High School.

In 1981 Susan married Robert Olmsted and they moved to Huntington Beach where they raised their son Michael - the pride of her life- now playing pro baseball in Japan. For the past 19 years she was employed by the Disney Corporation most recently as catering and convention services manager.

Susan enjoyed boating trips to the Colorado River and Shaver Lake, bowling, playing board games, and backyard barbeque's. She was an avid reader, loved country music and didn't miss a weekend NASCAR race. She was witty, quick to laugh, her smile lit up a room. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and everyone who knew her.

Susan is survived by her husband Bob and son Michael; mother Norma Silva; aunts Jane Saltzman and Jo Anna Henning; sister Barbara Cooper (Jefferson), brother Tom Haines (Lynda), sister Pat Romeo, brother John Haines, step-sister Cheryl Morse (Doug); nieces Lisa Quill (Tim), Gina Romeo, Alyssa Haines, Emily and Julia Morse; nephews Frankie Romeo, Kyle Haines, John Haines; great-nephews Frankie Romeo and Godson Timothy Quill; and several cousins.

A visitation will be held at 5:00 pm Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd. Westminster, CA 92683. A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday , August 26, 2010 at Calvary Chapel Pacific Coast, 6400 Westminster Blvd. Westminster, CA 92683. A reception will follow the service at The Magic Kingdom Ballroom, Disneyland Hotel Convention Center - 2nd floor, 1150 W. Magic Way, Anaheim, CA 92802.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her memory to her favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38101 ~ 1-800-822-6344 OR www.stjude.org.

The family would like to thank the friends at Disney, the ICU nursing staff at Fountain Valley Hospital and Hospice Touch for their assistance and dedicated support. Our deepest, heartfelt thanks go to Angela and Abby Lockhart, Katie Neal, Nikki Akstinas and Tari Sands for their friendship, devotion and tireless loving care.

I worked with susan at Disneyland and it was she who pointed me in the direction of Angels Baseball. We stayed in contact off and on through the years often talking of Michael and his baseball journey. I will miss Susan, our chats and her wonderful sense of humor. Rest in peace sweet Susan.

Susan and I started work at Disneyland within a week of each other in the same department. We went different ways for awhile, but ended up working together again in the Convention Services area. We shared many fun events together. I will remember many great times with her - from being in the Park with she and Michael and my grandchildren for a filming with Marie Osmond and the Miracle Childrens Hospital to events for our clients at the Hotels and Park. What a wonderful fun person Susan was and a joy to be around. Darlene Greenwood (Oakhurst, CA)

"It's been quite a while since I was at Disney, but Susan's smile and wit is impossible to forget. Her grin was her signature calling card. Quite a number of very happy memories in the photo gallery and I'm sure there are too many others to count. Sad to think about how she was taken too early, but so glad to have met Susan. She was a great person."

Susan and I connected because we were both going through our cancer journeys together while working at Disneyland. She brought me great strength and encouragement. She always had a positive attitude no matter what obstacles were thrown in her path. I will miss her very much. Much love to her family.

I have wonderful memories of my Aunt Sue. I loved going to their house as a child to swim and play upstairs in the game room. Christmas was such fun with them. I am sorry that I hadn't been able to see her recently in the last 10 years, but I still have very fond memories to look back on. We love you and will miss you!

I really wish I could be down there to celebrate her life. She was an amazing woman and will be missed by many. I am praying that our Heavenly Father brings our family peace and comfort during these trying times. We love you and will miss you Aunt Sue.
