Terence Banich Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2018.
Terence G. Banich, M.D., 72, of Las Vegas, died peacefully on October 15, 2018. Dr. Banich was born in Chicago, Ill., on January 6, 1946 to Frank and Mary Banich. After attending St. Ignatius High School, Dr. Banich earned a B.S. in 1968 and an M.D. in 1972, both from Loyola University Chicago, a M.S. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1975, and completed his surgical training at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in 1977. In 1971, after a whirlwind romance, Dr. Banich married his soulmate, Rosemary (Mimi) Banich, with whom he would have three sons. After moving from the Chicago area to Las Vegas, Nev., in 1980, Dr. Banich practiced surgery with General Surgery Associates. Dr. Banich stood by Mimi’s side for nearly 43 years as a devoted father and loving husband. He was a skilled physician who used his gifts to heal countless thousands, which earned him the respect and adoration of the Las Vegas community. Dr. Banich was preceded in death by his wife, Mimi, in 2013, his brother, Francis, in 2016, his sister, Mary Ann, in 2002, his mother, Mary, in 1994, and his father, Frank, in 1983. Dr. Banich will be sorely missed and forever remembered by his sons Terence (Katherine), Robert (Vonny) and Doug (Danielle), his granddaughters, Sadie, Eloise, Dylan and Devyn, his beloved dog, Nelson, and by the families of the patients who he healed over his many years of practice. Funeral mass will be held on November 17, 2018 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Wisdom, 2120 Lindell Rd., Las Vegas, Nev.

I didnt know he died. I quit the hospital years ago. I only today tried to give him a referral and discovered this.

We shared a love of huge dogs riding in little convertibles with the top down.

And many patient success stories.

I'm so very sad, my heart is in pain. I met Dr Banich in February 2017 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my first appointment he was so caring understanding and kind, sharing personal comforting feelings and personal experiences, it made me stop crying and smile. WOW what a awesome man. Ultimately a month later he was my surgeon that smile gave me comfort. He will be missed I have been meaning to connect with him to share many more thanks, he's been on my mind frequently lately. I was browsing the internet for his number at the office to call, and lord I saw his name , with the obituary aside of it. I couldn't do anything but say no with tears. To the family I'm so so sorry my deepest condolences. In the little time I known him he made a huge impact on myself, after the surgery at my appointment with him for a check up he asked me to do him a favor I said what would that be, and he asked me to speak to other's about breast cancer, share my story. Yes I will continue. Thanks my Doctor, my friend. Many blessings to the family and friends. My sincerest love and prayers for strength for all he touched.

I still can't believe he's gone, let alone gone for a year now. Such a kind, loving, caring and gentle human being. I'm glad he's with the love of his life, Mimi. Terry and Mimi were two of the kindest people I've ever known. They adored their boys and their grandchildren. Ciao, till we meet again. I love and miss you both.

Dr. Banich was a kind, compassionate and skilled surgeon with a subtle sense of humor - evidenced by the cartoons posted in his exam room - who gave me a new lease of life. I say a 'thank you' to him often in my prayers and will always remember how fortunate I am to have been one of his patients.

It is hard to believe that we lost this loving, caring man a year ago. We miss his genuine smile, loving and prayerfull words and his skilled surgical hands.
He helped save the lives of so many people. We are all eternally thankful of his presence on earth!

Dr Banich performed an inguinal hernia repair on me December of 2017. I've never had surgery so I was a bit leery. I had worked with Terrence previously as a pharmacist in Las Vegas. He was always professional and cordial when we spoke. When I decided to have the surgery, Dr..Banich was at the top of my list. I'll never regret my decision. He was extremely professional,,made me feel completely at ease, and had a great sense of humor. He was a super person in addition to being an excellent surgeon. He performed the surgery on what he said was the most severe hernia I've ever seen. It went without a hitch and a year later, I'm still feeling great. All thanks go to Dr.Banich. When a friend of mine was asking about having hernia surgery, I knew exactly who he should contact. When I went to Dr.Banich's website, I was devastated to find out he had passed away. I wanted to send my condolences for a great man who helped heal me during an uncertain time in my life. Rest In Peace Dr.Banich, you touched the lives of so many, you will be sorely missed. In Gods grace, Dr..Gary DiRisio

I just learned this very sad news. I met Terry 36 years ago through my law partner who used him as an expert witness. This began a long friendship. We used him as a superb expert witness in many cases and I would travel to Vegas several times a year to do his deposition. Decades ago I packed several Lou Malnati's pizzas with ice in a box, checked it as luggage and flew to Vegas with it. When I got it to the Banich residence it was just starting to thaw. This was before Malnatis offered their own air delivery.
I would go to dinner with the whole family and watched the boys grow up. When the Banichs came to Chicago once, his family and mine had dinner-my daughters being similar age. He was a very good friend and an exceptional surgeon and clinician. He was a formidable expert witness. He was just a great guy. I will miss him!!! . My sympathy to the boys and their families

Unbelievable shock and heartbreak is the only thing that expresses my reaction to the passing of Dr. Banich. This kind and compassionate person never gave up on me and through his surgical expertise me, has enabled me to live a normal life. I will be forever greatful and only wish I hadn't waited until the Christmas holidays to reach out and thank him again.

May God bless Terry and the Banich family.
I'll always remember Terry. He was a long time colleague, a mentor, an outstanding physician and a caring thoughtful human being whom I considered my friend. I feel fortunate that I recently stood in my kitchen with Terry and gave him a hug when this kind, selfless physician made a "house call" to help me with a friend. And although I'm terribly saddened wishing I had more time with this gentle man, I can smile a little because Terry knew that I thought of him as a wonderfully good person and he knew I would stand and applaud his performance in this "game" of life. I'll miss you Terry. Rest in peace.

My sympathies to the Banich family. I first met Dr. Banich at Spring Valley Hospital as they wheeled me in for emergency appendectomy. His smile was reassuring. I worked at Spring Valley and he would always come visit my candy dish. I kept a special bag of Wether's Original candies just for him. I was shocked today as I was trying to coordinate my upcoming procedure that he had passed. He touched so many lives...I certainly will miss him.

Dearest Banich family, may the good Lord bring you solace, comfort and peace of knowing your loved one served his life's purpose very well. On September 24th, 2018, I saw him for a 2nd opinion. He prayed with me, we hugged, acknowledged God's presence in the room and I know that I'm healing. He touched my heart, spirit and soul. God bless and bring all of you and the dog, tremendous soothing comfort during these trying moments.

Praying for sincere peace and comfort for the family of this compassionate child of God. Dr. Banich performed surgery on me twice, once in 2000, and again in 2007 due to Breast Cancer. He was genuinely a caring and thoughtful man of God. I remember him making the cross sign before they took me back for surgery which let me know that he was a man of faith. I work at Valley hospital, and every time we would see each other in the hallway, we would always greet each other with a hug. Again, please accept my sincere condolences. Dr. Banich will truly be missed.

My heart breaks for all of us, but especially his boys and his grandkids. I hope that Terry and Mimi had a wonderful reunion. I met Terry and Mimi when they were building their house. They were such wonderful people. They introduced them selves as Terry and Mimi Banich. I didn't know for a while that he was a surgeon. They always kept in touch over the years and I was lucky enough to be invited to Mimi's 60th birthday party. He adored Mimi. I am so grateful to have known both of them and meet their boys. The world has truly lost a great man. RIP Terry.

Over the years, my life intersected with Dr. Banich, but two incidents were profound-when he literally saved my life in the early 1980's and again when during a hospitalization a few years ago, he came to visit, pray for and with me. At the time, I was under the care of his partners, so it was a personal visit. I will always be grateful that God gave me the opportunity to thank him once again for giving me back my life. Dr. Bancih was a healer of the body and the soul. His powerful prayer for me,on the day of our visit, is engraved on my heart forever. My love to his family and to his partners-Beverly Oehler

Dr. Banich saved my mom's life December 1983. Wow, I thought a lot of Dr. Banich. Heaven got a good one!

October 20, 2018

So sorry to hear of Dr. Banich's passing. He fixed a hernia I had and one thing I remembered was the time he spent explaining the procedure to me. We also shared a laugh when during our talk we discovered that our fathers were both plumbers in Chicago.

October 20, 2018

I had the honor of know Terry and Frank. We started out at St. Anne's Hospital in Chicago. Both Dr Banich did surgery on a sick teenager. When faced with fact this child was going to die!, the Banich Family gave this child a onderful last Christmas. In Las Vegas, we met again in the hospital, only I was his nurse just like St, Anne's. He was a fine surgeon and a gentleman. He made a difference in many lives. May he Rest In Peace. With found memories and prayers, sincerely, Susan Smith

LITERALLY SAVED MY LIFE The Summer of 1984. Still have the diagram he drew at my bedside showing what was going on when NOBODY else knew and how his "Grandmother Died of almost the very same thing." In 2013 I was thrown into the world of Breast Cancer and sent to Dr. Banich for surgery. The moment he walked into the room, I knew he was special and I felt an instant peace. He handled two of my surgeries with success. Over the years we stayed in touch as I just could not lose a connection with him. He would talk to me and treat me as if I was his own daughter, not just a patient. I am devastated to learn that he has passed. To his family....he loved all of you so very much. He was put on this earth to heal and love and he did that to the fullest of his ability. I will love him and miss him forever. R.I.P. Dr. Banish. You will always be my angel.

I remember having Terry come in to my cases when he was learning laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and mentoring him on how to insert the instruments. We were also down at the Medical Center in Chicago at the same time. He was a great surgeon, and a pioneer in the Las Vegas medical community. My prayers are with the family
