Terence Butler Obituary
Terence was a dedicated math professor at Rutgers University for an impressive 60 years. His passion for teaching and his commitment to his students made him a beloved figure in the academic community.
Beyond his professional achievements, Terence had a deep love for music. He played guitar, banjo and ukulele. His musical talents brought happiness to those around him and served as a reminder of his vibrant spirit.
Terence's educational journey included attending prestigious institutions. He received his undergraduate degree from MIT, his master's degree from Harvard University, and his PhD from Indiana University. His thirst for knowledge and his pursuit of excellence shaped his career and personal life.
Terence is survived by his six children, two grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, and brother. Their memories will forever be cherished by those who loved him.
We will remember him as a brilliant mathematician, a dedicated teacher, and a passionate musician. But most of all, we will remember him as a wonderful and loving father. His impact on the lives he touched will never be forgotten.

I will always be grateful to Professor Butler for being my faculty advisor and professor when I was a Math major at Rutgers in the 1970s. He was definitely one of the most personable and passionate Math professor that I had. It was quite a unique learning experience sitting in his classes as he would write out everything he said on the blackboard so we could take notes verbatim, making learning and studying so much easier and enjoyable. He will be missed dearly and RIP.
