Teresa (Terri) Holladay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 5, 2024.
Teresa Anne Holladay, known to her family and friends as Terri, sadly passed away on December 27, 2023, at the age of 55 in Hong Kong. She was a beautiful, extraordinary woman who led a remarkable life and was loved by many.

Terri was born on March 13, 1968, in Saigon, Vietnam. Her journey began during the Vietnam War when her father, who served in the U.S. Army Special Forces, met her Vietnamese mother. Their love story brought them four daughters, and Terri was one of them. In 1973, she and her family immigrated to the United States, settling in Daytona Beach, FL.

Terri's life was filled with adventure as she traveled the world, embracing different cultures along the way. She began her career in modeling and was recognized as one of the most beautiful Asian women in the world by Singapore's Her World magazine. Her talent and elegance led her to be featured in magazines such as Elle, Vogue, and Marie-Claire. She worked with brands including Christian Dior, Gucci, Cartier, Lancome, Max Factor, and La Perla. She was an ambassador for Dutch appliance makers Princess. In 2004 she and her son, Roman, worked with the Royal Thai Army to distribute cooking products after the Tsunami.

She was glamorous, gracious, and generous. Terri had a passion for cooking and designing handbags. She loved animals, particularly elephants. And Terri deeply loved her two loyal golden retrievers, Summer and Hope.

Children held a special place in Terri's heart, and she spent time in orphanages throughout Vietnam. However, her greatest love, was for her son, Roman, who she adored. Terri also loved her husband, Paolo, very much. They were together for over 15 years when he lost his battle to cancer in 2018. It was her wish to one day be reunited with him in heaven.

Terri is survived by her son Roman Chao, her father Tom Holladay, her sister Mary (Greg) Naugle, and her sister Jan (Mike) Pierre. She is preceded in death by her mother Nguyen Thi Hue and her youngest sister Karen Elizabeth Holladay who died less than a year old.

Terri's family would like to express their gratitude to all those who have shown their love and support during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A private family celebration of life will be held.

The Holladay relatives have made arrangements to plant trees in Israel as a living tribute to Terri's life. She would have loved that. Well-wishers are invited to donate to one of Terri's favorite charities called the Christina Noble Children's Foundation in Saigon.

I briefly worked for Terri in my early 20s when she lived in the states. She was in the process of writing her first cookbook and was always cooking. Many times she would serve me a dish and ask for my opinion. My favorite dish was her fried rice and while it seems simple, I have not found anyone who makes it like her. I had some today and it made want to see if she ever did finish that cookbook. I was not expecting to see her obituary. It seems I am 2 yrs late to express my condolences, but I do hope her family has been able to find comfort.

So much I can say Terri. I will always remember how special it was to have met you and Roman in NY. And how much we spoke about how amazing God is in our lives. I am beyond devastated to hear of your passing Terri. I will always have you in my heart and that beautiful memory when we met the first time. I can't even finish what I want to write! Rest in Heaven my friend! You will always have a special place in my heart!

I met Terri many years ago in Brisbane and brought her back to Hong Kong. I then accompanied her to USA and a while after she returned to Hong Kong I met her on board my ship. She took off one of her high heel shoes and hit me over the head. The follow up from that was one of the more interesting night of my career and yet it still remains one of the fondest memories I have. Sometimes calamitous situations lead to extraordinary solutions. Later, Terri and I often laughed about that day. If you want to know more there is plenty but you have to be sitting comfortably for me to begin. Dr. Wayne. If you want to find me you will already know how. My contact number has been the same since 1990. Fondest regards especially to Roman, who was very young when I met him.

I am absolutely stunned to hear of my dear friend´s passing. We shared so many conversations over the last 10 years, we grew especially close during Paola´s fight. Afterwards she moved here to central Florida and we grew much closer. Her heart was always in Hong Kong w her son Roman, but we had many talks of them both moving back to Florida permanently. I love you and miss you Terri. I will miss your wisdom along w your sassy, adorable personality and that beautiful face!!! My prayers to Roman, and her family. God bless and Good night my sweet!!

Loving thoughts and prayers to Terri´s family.
Terri and I met at Seabreeze Junior High School. Many carefree memories of our classes, friends, school dances, and bike rides on the beach.
We went on to attend Mainland Senior High together. We were amongst the few beachside kids shipped off to Mainland with new school zoning. I recall Terri telling me it was going to be ok, and we would meet lots of new people. It was Terri that encouraged me to sign up with her as an athletic trainer our 10th grade year. We attended football games together on the side lines. It was Terri that put me at ease when we had to dress greek for a day, by lending me the perfect pair of shoes :)
Years passed, and Facebook brought us back into communication.
I shared with her that I married "little" Patrick Urquhart from Seabreeze Junior High. We each shared deeply personal stories of life, love and heartache.

Patrick and I stumbled upon the news this evening via Facebook. Our hearts are deeply saddened.
Mary and Jan, we send heartfelt prayers.
Roman, we have never met, but your mother expressed to me how so very much she loved you, and how proud you made her.

I am blown away and still shaking about Terri's passing. We dated when I was in college in Daytona Beach. Terri has always been a small part of me and she had a big impact on me. We remained friends and I will always have a part of her in me. She was one of a kind and a beautiful person and a beautiful person.

I had a very short friendship with Terri! We used to chat a lot via the Facebook Messenger. We chatted about everything before and how stressful for her to return from Florida to HK! I started to get a good understanding of Terri´s daily life. I did not expect to find out from the media that Terri had gone! I was very devastating and upsetting! I´m sure it ll shock everyone. It was my privilege to get to know Terri ! Take Care of Yourself Roman!

I am so heartbroken to just hear about this.

I was privileged to have been friends with and worked with Terri when my company Elite Model Management in Hong Kong represented her. She was always sweet, kind and lovely to everyone around her. We lost touch after I left Hong Kong but she always had a special place in my heart all these years. Rest in peace.

This is so sad. As a journalist in Hong Kong, I interviewed Terri a number of times and she was always kind, open and as honest as the day is long. Please accept my condolences. Niall Fraser, SCMP, Eastern Express.

My first memory of Terri was in 2001 when she contacted me for some products. I remember meeting and thinking what a gorgeous lady. In fact being a Christian I prayed for her that time and from then onwards my journey with Terri began. We connected well and I got to know Roman who was 7 at that time and later I met Paolo. I remember that Terri was a caring and devoted mother and an amazing wife to Paolo. They truly loved each other and Terri´s dedication to Paolo was impressive during his illness. Terri did some promotion for Princess and helped our company by promoting some of our high end jewellery. One of my favourite memory was when Terri invited me, my daughter and son-in-law to an elephant saving charity event. Terri´s kindness and generosity, her love for animals. Through my time with Terri, I knew she had a passion for cooking, creatives ideas which she executed through her handbag brand as well as her love and generosity for charity ventures that served the underprivileged. Terri you are remembered and I truly appreciate who she was as a person her perseverance through multiple challenges and difficult situations.

Hi Guys. Thanks for all the support and wishes for my family through these difficult times... To be honest, I'm still struggling with what to write about Mom. Theres just too much to express and its really hard to type out in feelings.

Her and my late stepfather were the warmth and unconditional love that I wish I appreciated more. They were kindest people I've ever met and having them gone, its hard not to feel alone...

However, I know she'd want me and the family to move forward. Still in quite a bit of grief, so would appreciate everyone's prayers. Please help me pray for all our good memories to transition from sadness to strength. I love you Mom. I wish you and Paolo an eternity of happiness together in Heaven.

We have known Terri as pastors and great friends for over 25 years. We have had the privilege to walk with her and Roman through both the good times and the darker times of her life. We particularly rejoiced through the happiness she found with Paolo, though it was sadly cut short. She loved Roman who was everything to her. Above her she held a deep faith in God. She was a beautiful person - inside and out. We will miss her but rejoice that she and Paolo are united and that we shall see them both one day

With a heavy heart, I bid farewell to my beautiful sister. Despite the challenges life presented the love we shared will forever remain etched in my heart. I will cherish the bond we forged in laughter and tears and will hold on to all our good memories. I will never be the same and will miss you until we meet again.
