Terri Lynne Pomeroy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2024.
Terri Lynne Pomeroy (née Hossner) passed away on August 23, 2024, at the age of 74. Born August 20, 1950, in St. Anthony, Idaho, Terri Lynne was the cherished daughter of George and Louene Brown Hossner.

At the age of seven, Terri Lynne lost her vision to cancer, leading her parents to relocate the family to Ogden, Utah so she could attend the Utah School for the Blind. Her maternal grandparents, James and Velma Eugenie Brown, also moved to Ogden to be near their granddaughter, providing invaluable support.

Terri Lynne always wanted a large family. In 1971, she married Loren Pomeroy (later divorced) and they had five children.

Terri Lynne's lifelong love of education shone brightly as she graduated from Ogden High School and began her pursuit of higher education at Brigham Young University. She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Weber State University and a Master's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation from Utah State University.

A tireless advocate for the disability community, Terri Lynne devoted many years to lobbying for the Americans with Disabilities Act and other critical accommodations for the blind and physically impaired. Her work made a lasting impact on the lives of many, and her dedication to improving accessibility and rights for all will be remembered as a cornerstone of her legacy.

Terri Lynne was an active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and found many of her dearest friends through church service.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, and her younger brother, Michael Hossner. She leaves behind her children: Curtis Pomeroy (Thelma), Nicole Kasperick (Kyle), Kindra Lea, Charity Pomeroy, and Rustin Pomeroy. She is also survived by her sister, Carleen, her brother, Brent, 13 grandchildren, her cherished cat Henry, and her beloved granddog Diesel.

Terri Lynne's life was a testament to resilience and advocacy. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and those who knew her. A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor her remarkable life

Uncle Kim, thank you kindly for sharing your memories. I´ve got to say, no one told a good "blind" joke like my mom! Your games certainly honed her skills, as she always knew which of her children was around based on our breathing and even the cadence of our walks. As her children, we were acutely aware of her capability. But, others were sometimes surprised. I once had a friend whom I thought knew my mom quite well until, one day he asked me why she always wore her sunglasses indoors. As much time as he´d spent with her, he hadn´t realized she was blind-a testament to her adeptness in this sighted world.

I was saddened to hear of Terri Lynne's passing. I am a Hossner uncle about
her age. She and her siblings spent many summers at our farm in Idaho, playing and enjoying the country life. We played tag, and "blind man's bluff"
(sorry, we were kids - she didn't object, and she always won - she could hear us breathing :) ). I also remember that when the lights were doused at the end of day, she would continue reading; her book under the covers, in braille! She was never considered "handicapped", and would resent being called that. She became a remarkable woman as an adult and lived a successful and remarkable life. We offer our sincere condolences to her children and siblings.

My mom adored her little brother Michael who passed away 3 decades ago. This photo is how I'll think of the two of them, reunited again.
