Terry Pollard Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Mar. 23 to Mar. 25, 2017.
Terry Pollard December 3, 1938 - March 14, 2017 On March 14 we lost a kind and gentle soul, beloved husband of Betty, proud and loving father to Michelle and Nicole.

Terry held a B.A. in Political Science and Slavonic Studies, and a Masters of Social Work. He was well known and respected as a social worker and administrator at the Ministry of Social Services. For sixteen years he was Director of Computer Systems for the Ministry before retiring in 1997.

Curious and well read, Terry had a keen interest in politics and loved engaging in discussions about Canadian and world politics. He was a fabulous cook and enjoyed sharing his Ukrainian heritage by hosting Ukrainian feasts for family and friends on special occasions such as Christmas and Easter. He was an avid gardener and found much pleasure in tending to his garden. A music lover, Terry also played the violin, mandolin and guitar.

Terry is survived by his brother Ron, sister-in-law Judy, nephews Matt and Michael Pollard and Stephen and Craig Phillips.

A gathering to celebrate Terry's life will be held on May 13 from 2pm - 5pm at Aberthau Mansion located at 4397 West 2nd Avenue in Vancouver.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Aunt Leah's Place, a non-profit organization that helps youth transitioning from foster care and mothers in need. To donate call 604-525-1204 or visit auntleahs.org.

Joyce and I enjoyed many visits with Betty and Terry to Sally's Keats retreat which we will now miss. We are sorry that we are unable to attend the service as we are out of the country. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Betty and Family:
So sorry for your loss. I've missed seeing you and Terry on our walks around our shared community. Terry was the Ministry Manager responsible for introducing me to provincial government public service and was my regional manager for many years. Terry's calm, patience, respectful and gentle management style was much appreciated. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to have worked for and with him.
