Thelma Bradley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 30, 2015.
Thelma Bell (Falls) Bradley, 95, of Montebello passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at her residence after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Nelson County on July 15, 1919, a daughter of the late Charles Edward Falls and Olive Blanche (Campbell) Falls.
Thelma was a life member of Beech Grove Christian Church and attended Vesuvius Baptist Church. She had many hobbies such as quilting and canning/freezing. Thelma loved to garden; some of the beautiful flowers she grew were Glads and Dahlias. She worked as a waitress, the first one hired when the restaurant first opened, for many years at Whetstone Ridge Restaurant on the Blue Ridge Parkway and at Howard Johnson's Restaurant in Afton. Aside from her hobbies and work, her top priority was being a loving mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey F. Bradley; two sons, Wayne Bradley and Charles Bradley; four brothers, Norvell Falls, Hawthorne Falls, Randolph Falls, and Garnett Falls; three sisters, Fleta (Falls) Pillow, Edna (Falls) Panck and Josie (Falls) Chilton; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Falls and Betty Falls; a brother-in-law, Buck Panck; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her daughter and caregiver, Gail Bradley of Montebello; two grandsons, Christopher Bradley and his wife Kim of Montebello and " Wesley" Bradley and his girlfriend, Theresa Nartowicz of Stuarts Draft; granddaughter, Ashley Schiano Moriello and her husband, Biagio Schiano Moriello of Staunton; three great grandchildren, Taylor Bradley, Morgan Bradley, and Colton Bradley all of Montebello; two daughter-in-law, Sandra Bradley of Spout Spring and Deborah Bradley of Stuarts Draft, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers that helped take care of Thelma during her long illness. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Dennis L. Hatter, Dr. Richard Miller, and Nurse Fannie Miller.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Vesuvius Baptist Church, 830 Tye River Turnpike, Vesuvius, VA 24483 with Rev. Matt Coiner and Rev. Dan Stanley officiating. Burial to follow at Haines Chapel Cemetery, Montebello, VA. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2015 at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes in Waynesboro.
Memorial donations may be made in Thelma's memory to The Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

I was a caregiver for Thelma, who I called "Mom". She was one of the sweetest people I know. She was walking with help when I first came to help take care of her. She was so beautiful inside and out. We could not always understand what she was saying but she talked a lot. She was so loving and caring and loved everyone. She always had a smile for me when I came to work and would go to the bed and say "Hi "Mom" and she would look up and smile the most beautiful smile which brightened my day. Thelma was an avid gardener and she was a hard worker. She had beautiful flowers in her garden. She loved life and life loved her. Thelma will be watching over everyone. She is loved and she will never be forgotten. I will love her forever and will miss her presence on earth greatly.

Love,
Glenda

Aunt Thelma,

You were a Sister, Wife, Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and Friend to all of us, and you never met a stranger!

So many memories made for me growing up during the summers when I came to visit having fun playing in the big bean tree and open fields, riding horses, feeding the animals and helping out in the garden, and you know there was nothing better-tasting then one of your fresh tomatoes!

Aunt Thelma, you were a kind and hard-working lady. On the farm, there was always something to do. When it was time to mow the hay for the winter months, friends pitched in to help out Uncle Aubrey, Wayne and Charles get that big job done. Now, Chris and Wesley continue to carry on their work ethic. And - Aunt Thelma, you did work then too - you made the guys feel welcome by preparing them hot cooked meals; and let's not forget Gail helping out too she was in charge of making those great home-made, hot out of the oven, scratch biscuits!

We all enjoyed getting our families together for those picnics sitting around out under the trees while a nice breeze would blow across the mountain side those seemed to be the simpler times years ago!

Thank you, Lord, for letting Aunt Thelma share her love and smile for us for so many years and we know she is now with you, her favorite fellas and family that meant so much to her!

Lastly, I'd like to share this short poem:

"A Mother's Love"

A Mother is someone on whom you can depend
a counselor, a confidant, and undoubtedly a friend.

Her love is never failing, in abundance it freely flows,
Encompassing her offspring as on life's journey they go.

She is always there for you, even when you stumble and fall; A Mother's love is eternal and the greatest gift of all.

Love,
Debbie, Bud and Trey

Gail

When Connie and I built our house 21 years ago up there, we were a frequent patron of the Whetstone Ridge Restaurant. We met Thelma there and it started a 21 year friendship. We will always remember Thelma for her hospitality both in the restaurant and at your house, where we had the pleasure of having lunch you and her one day.

She was a very loving person whom we will always remember.
