Theresa M. Coddington, PhD

Dr. Theresa M. Coddington (January 18, 1963-September 11, 2022) Theresa was born in 1963 to Harold and Marie Coddington, the 5th of 6 siblings in Howell, MI. She was a licensed psychologist with a private practice in Overland Park, Kansas. Her specialty and life's passion was working with children, adolescents and their families, and was a champion for those with ADHD, ASD, and learning disabilities.

Theresa Graduated from Howell High School (Class of 1981) and earned her B.S. of Computer Science at Central Michigan University (1985). She then studied at Loyola University Chicago, earning a Masters of Pastoral Studies (1987). She then transferred to her forever home of Kansas, Studying Counseling Psychology at the University of Kansas and continuing on to earn her Doctorate of Psychology (1989).

Theresa is survived by her siblings, Patricia Flanagan, David and Chris Coddington, Larry Coddington, Bob Coddington and Mike and Stacey Coddington, as well as her many nieces and nephews, whom she adored. She is preceded in death by her mother, Marie Coddington Mcknight, step father Joe McKnight, and father Harold Coddington.

In her professional life, Theresa was an amazingly accomplished woman, who touched many lives in such a short time. She dedicated her service to numerous local and state psychological associations, and has been the president of the Kansas Psychological Association, Greater Kansas City Psychological Association, and served on the American Psychological Association Council of Representatives. Having participated in various roles and board positions throughout her career, her leadership and commitment has made a lasting impact on her professional community.

Theresa will always be remembered by her willingness to serve through her church and local organizations, and her bright cheerful smile. Her passion for her Alma Mater, and her affection for any and all things Snoopy are undeniably her trademark. She loved to sing, mathematics, travel, puzzles, and dance. She was a member of the Mini Cooper Club-she loved her Mini Coopers, and the people and pets who rode and drove in them (the faster the better!). She filled her Red Baron with toys for Toys for Tots, drove in parades, and dressed up the Snoop Coop and Red Baron for Halloween....and we cannot forget her constant companion, Marbles. Marbles will continue on in her spirit, greeting friends and children, and provide the special comfort that only a therapy dog can give.

Services will be held in Overland Park, Kansas at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish on October 8th, 2022, with food and fellowship celebrating Theresa's life following. Internment will be in Howell, Michigan, at St George Cemetery with immediate family and friends. Memorial contributions can be sent in Theresa's honor to: Paws 4 Autism https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MTYwMTEy or Lakemary Center Https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=Lakemary&id=27

I'm so sad to hear of Dr. Coddington's passing. She was instrumental in me and my daughter making it after losing my husband and she helped get my daughter's ADHD diagnosed. It's only been since medication and her excellent advice that we have started communicating in a healthy way. She will truly be missed.

It was only 16 months ago when Dr. Coddington became my son's therapist, but in that short time we accomplished so much and my family is forever grateful for her.

Her kindness and humanity was truly inspirational. I hope one day I'll be able to bring as much good into the world as she did.

Dr. Coddington was my therapist for so many years, and she did so much for me. The world lost such a bright light and incredible human being. I will always remember how at peace I felt being surrounded by Snoopy in her office, even as a struggling, sad teenager. I miss her so dearly and I am sending love to all of her family, friends, and sweet Marbles who always cheered me up.

Theresa was such a HUGE support for our family. She was there for us for many years, helping us through difficult times. She always made us smile. We knew she was going to be great when we walked into her office and saw the Peanuts crew. She gave us such great advise through the years and I know she loved my girls .
We are so shocked and cannot believe this wonderful human being has been taken from us way too soon. God Bless you Theresa and your whole family. YOU are going to be greatly missed by a lot of people who LOVED you! Thank you for everything.

I'll miss Dr. Coddington. This is sudden and unreal.

She was so empathetic and understanding. Also she would throw a stuffed crab at you if you were being crabby.

Dr.C was a character. Her Peanuts collection was impressive. I'll never forget her.

Dr. Coddington was an encouraging and most supportive supervisor. She lifted me when I was down and I´m forever grateful for her love and care. She was pivotal in my professional development. I will miss our lunch dates at chipotle and all her wisdom she shared with me

Theresa gave her service tirelessly to psychology as a very active leader in the American Psychological Association. She was on the executive board of APA Div. 31, the association of State Psychological Associations, President of the Kansas Psychological Association, and a member of the APA Leadership for Women in Psychology. She was humble and kind, and a hard worker. You could always count on her. She was a calm and reasonable voice in debate. Her psychology friends enjoyed hanging out with her, hearing about her dog and her love of working with the kids in her practice. She will be greatly missed by many around the country who knew her through APA.

We are so saddened about the loss of Theresa! She was a great friend to us and our kids. She was also a great co-worker and mentor. Theresa had a heart of gold when it came to our kids. She was very generous to them. Theresa enjoyed helping out in any way and loved playing with the kids. Our three kids always wanted her over! Theresa was always around to listen to whatever was on your mind. She will be missed by our entire family!

I still can´t come to grips with her being gone. Theresa will forever be in our hearts for her amazing work with kids and families. I am incredibly blessed to have known her and thankful for all the time we spent together traveling to and from Prüvit events and all the time we spent together as roommates at events. Theresa was a great person, good friend in the KC MINI Club and I always enjoyed talking with her. She loved doing the Christmas lights drives in December with the club. I remembered chatting with her at Baron MINI on her new electric MINI she had ordered and how excited she was. I didn´t know that would be my last chance to talk to her. She will be greatly missed.

I am heartbroken to hear of Theresa's passing. She was such a dear colleague. Kind, thoughtful, and a pleasure with whom to work. Everyone got along with Theresa. She has left us way too soon.

Can't believe she's gone! I treasure memories of working with Theresa in DC where she co-chaired the Committee of state Leaders and was a strong decisive advocate for practicing psychologists. Theresa was articulate, kind ,supportive of all.
