Thomas Alessi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2024.
Thomas John Alessi (Tommy), aged 83, of Chicago, IL passed away on November 5, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on February 21, 1941, Tommy spent his entire life in the Bridgeport neighborhood. A long time devout and active member of All Saints St. Anthony Parish, he contributed generously over the years as an usher and a school board member.

Tommy served in the Army for several years where he spent time in Alaska. He was very proud of the experiences there and talked about them often. Following his military service, he pursued a long and lively career in sales where he dedicated more than 50 years.

Tommy is survived by his partner and the love of his life, JoAnn Gorniak, whom he spent the last 38 years with. He is the cherished father of Zina (Mark) Stolarz, the late Max Ferguson, Gary Ferguson, the late Lisa Ferguson, and Toni (Steinar) Engebretsen. He was a second father to Lynn Terrile and Lori (Keith) Goetz. He was a cherished brother to Judy Fazzari and favorite uncle to Lynn (Bill) Triolo, Mike Fazzari, and Bobby Fazzari. His many grandchildren, Johnnie, Chuckie, Brittany, Carsten, Micaela, Mia, Cory, Aaron, Alec, Alyse, Andrew, and Angelina brought lots of joy and energy to his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marcella Alessi.

Family and friends are invited to join us to pay our respects and honor Tommys life on Friday, 11/15 at Our Lady Of The Holy Family Parish, 1334 W. Flournoy, Chicago. Gathering in church at 10:00 am with mass beginning at 11:00 am. There will be a luncheon directly following in the lower level of church.

Tommy never took life too seriously and made a party and friends wherever he was. He is and was truly a great guy....one of a kind for sure. He will be deeply missed.

Three months have passed since God took you from us. I think of you all the time. Miss you a lot, Watch over all of us. I think of so many things that we did with Mom & Dad and the Alessi & Schmit families. We were very lucky. You were also lucky to be a father to 5 and many grandchildren and to be a partner to the love of your life Joanne for 35 years. Miss you and love you forever brother. Love, Judy

Jeez, this is a hard one. Tommy was one of the good guys. We all went to St. Anthony´s. Ralph La Rosa, Frankie Iozzo, and me Bill Kiaune. Tommy was a dynamo. Loved life. As we all went thru different paths we still tried to stay in touch.. Tommy was a
true friend. So sorry to hear about his passing. My deepest condolences. I can see us in his basement on Lowe. Can see his Mom, his Dad. Judy , I´m so sorry.
May he rest in peace. Tommy, thank you for the memories. Man, we had `em.

My brother Tom was a 1955 graduate of St. Anthony of Padua Grade School on 28th Place and1959 graduate of St. Benedict High School on Byron and Leavitt in Chicago. He was an uncle to 3, Great uncle to 7 and Great Great uncle to 5. He was also a cousin the many on both the Alessi ad Schmit families. He will be missed by all us. I will especially miss Tommy and have wonderful memories of growing up as his older sister. There was only the two of us but we were very lucky to have the most wonderful parents on earth. Rest in peace Tommy and give Mom and Dad a kiss for me in Heaven. I will never forget you.
