Thomas D. Fenn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2017.
Thomas D. "Thom" Fenn, 55, of 447 High Street passed away at home on Tuesday after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 21, 1961 in Pittsfield, he was a son of the late James D. and Lois Mayer Fenn. A lifelong Dalton resident, he was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1979 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. After high school he proudly served his country in the United States Army as a military police officer and then with the United States Army National Guard for another eleven years. He was a self-employed electrician for several years and had also worked for the former Wilson Electric of Dalton. Thom also served as a volunteer for many years with Dalton Community Television. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and a proud member of the Benjamin F. Sullivan American Legion Post #155 of Dalton where he served as a member of the Military Honors Team. He enjoyed playing rugby and being outdoors. He was a longtime fan of all Boston sports teams. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He leaves four daughters; Jennifer A. Fenn of Lanesboro, Caitlyn E. Fenn of Pittsfield, Rachael D. Fenn of Pittsfield and Alyvia Asta of Pittsfield. Four brothers; James "Chip" Fenn of Dalton, Michael B. Fenn of Chesapeake, VA, John A. Fenn of Chesapeake, VA and Paul W. Fenn of Belchertown, MA. Four sisters; Diane Fenn-Snyder of Pittsfield, Judith C. Fenn of Chesapeake, VA, Frances M. "Sissy" Fenn of Pepperell, MA and Laura J. Fenn of Springfield, MA. Four grandchildren; Alorah Fenn, Kalliyahna Fenn, Blake Choon and Javonte Williams. He also leaves his companion; Nancy Krupowies of Tolland, CT and his former wife; Linda A. Fenn of Pittsfield as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends including his nephew Ryan Snyder of New Hampshire. Thom's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone in the community who so generously supported him and his family at his recent benefit at the Dalton American Legion on January 8th. FUNERAL NOTICE: At Thom's request, calling hours will be held Monday, January 23, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. A graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton conducted by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor of St. Agnes Church in Dalton. Memorial contributions in memory of Thom may be made to the Dalton American Legion in care of the funeral home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226.

My Condolences To the Fenn Family. I got to know Tom while being his Letter Carrier at the Dalton Community Cable. I loved to hear about his time in the Military and the stories of the Veteran's Military Service he would share with me. He would show me a picture of them on the wall at the Dalton Community Cable and tell me their story. When I was having an electrical issue with a switch, Tom came over to resolve the issue. He was a great man and will be missed.

To all of Thom's extended family and friends,
I enjoyed several years of working with Thom at the studios of Dalton Community Cable filming shows for the Council on Aging. Thom and John Ostresh were unfailingly supportive and encouraging as we worked together. Thom was always quiet and respectful, and worked tirelessly to polish each program before it was shown. He spoke often of his daughters, his love and pride clearly evident. I am so sorry for your great loss. Please know that he will be missed by all of us whose lives he touched with his gentle spirit.
