Speedway - Thomas Maurice Fansler, Jr., 86, of Speedway, IN, passed away on February 13, 2024. Tom was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished spending time with his family, whether it was fishing with his sons, attending sporting events or theater productions of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, or playing softball in the church league. Tom had a variety of interests including reading novels, doing puzzles, gardening, and enjoying theater and music. He was especially passionate about playing the string bass and tuba in various bands, including the Purdue Marching Band, Purdue Variety Band, Indianapolis Municipal Band, and a jazz band.

Tom was a compassionate leader in the construction industry and played a significant role in the growth of the Smock Fansler Corporation, which started as a humble excavating company and became a renowned general contracting corporation. He was also a co-founder of the Indiana Subcontractor Association. Tom considered his employees to be family and was dedicated to serving the needs of the community. He took on leadership roles in several organizations, including the Speedway Lions Club, Speedway United Methodist Church, Buchanan Counseling, and The Gathering Together, among others.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Nancy Fansler, his brother John Fansler, his brother-in-law Jerry Gillooly, his children Thomas Fansler III, David Fansler (Sandy Fansler), William Fansler (Rashmi Fansler), and Elizabeth Kirsch (Scott Kirsch), his grandchildren David Jr. (Stephanie Fansler), Thomas IV (Allysa Fansler), Katie, Alexa, Kyler, Taylor, Akaash, and Morgan, his great-grandchildren Jaylee, David III, Thomas V, and Brynlie, and several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his father Thomas Fansler, Sr., his mother Mary Fansler, his brother Harold Fansler, his sister-in-law Margaret Fansler, his sister Patricia Gillooly, and his sister-in-law Jane Fansler.

Tom received his education at Monrovia High School and went on to attend Purdue University.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24th at Speedway United Methodist Church, located at 5065 W 16th St, Speedway, IN 46224. Visitation will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm, with the Celebration of Life immediately following at 1:00pm. All whose lives Tom touched are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Speedway United Methodist Church in Tom's memory.
