KARCZ
THOMAS
Have you ever watched paint dry? If not, you may want to start. Consider: Thomas Joseph Karcz (Pete, T.K., Dad and Pap Pap) who lost his battle with Pancreatic Cancer peacefully at home in Oakdale on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Pete was 63 years young, the courageous and strong hubby of Diane L. Karcz for 41 years; the best father ever to Brian (Lora), Ben (Angela), and Christopher (Michel), and easily the World's Greatest Pappy/Pap Pap to Bianca, Brandon, Ella, Jackson, and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Karcz; brother, Robert Karcz; and his precious pups, Pixie, Pepper, Sneakers, and Kashious. Survived by his brother, Charles Karcz, Jr.; and nieces, Amy, Shelly and Barbie; nephews, Jimmy and Mikie; and brothers-in-Iaw, Jim Kuten, Gary Gallagher (Jody) and Scott Gallagher (Lindi). Pete was an engaged father who rarely, if ever, missed an opportunity to support his three boys, even though he described many of the activities or events as "like watching paint dry." No matter the moment, big or small, happy or sad, athletic or personal, his boys knew when they came home or when they looked up into the stands, he would be there, he was always there. He was unequaled as a son, providing unconditional love and care to his mother-in-law, and then over ten years of constant care of his father. His favorite activities included: trips to "the Garage," breakfast with his wife, Diane, or his "other wife" and best friend, Billy. Laundry, yes, I said that correctly, Laundry, checking for lines in the carpet to ensure his boys ran the sweeper, "PM'ing" and cleaning the family vehicles, taking naps during Nascar races, working with his friends at the Airport, getting his Deep Creek tractor purposely stuck so that he could pull it out with his "Big Blue" truck, spending time at the Cabin and on the boat in Deep Creek with his wife, Diane, enjoying a small glass of Bacardi and Coke, and he certainly loved and was proud to "watch the paint dry." His best skills included: a unique ability to locate you no matter where you may be, which often included random drop-ins to check and make sure you were where you should be, ability to fix any and all motorized objects, large and small, "I'll get it running," and for sure transportation logistics. When it came to getting from A to B, Pete's way was the only way, and it was never challenged, even when it seemed far more complex than necessary. Pete taught us many things during his 63 years, but maybe the most important lesson of all was to take a moment to "watch the paint dry." In other words, slow down, enjoy each moment you can with your family, and above all, when your family looks for you in the stands, be there. Family and friends welcome Thursday 6-9 p.m. and Friday 2-9 p.m. WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, (412-563-2800), 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 12 Noon in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Robinson Twp. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pete's name to Gateway Hospice, 9380 McKnight Rd., #201, Pgh., PA 15237.

Hi Lovie,
I can hardly believe it's been 5 years since I last heard your voice, saw your face, felt your touch. To say how much I miss you is impossible to put in words. I can only believe that you are witness to the beauty of our family as our babies grow up. My hurt would break even more if I thought you could not see our boys and their beautiful families. We sent you beautiful lanterns in your memory a few weeks ago. Brandon and Ella had as tough as time as I did thinking of you that night. It was inspiring but hard. Brian worked very hard to finally make that happen. He is always there for me, just like he promised you. Lora and Brian are raising the greatest little people, Brandon is exactly as you remember him, Jackson is going to be a famous Rapper and Isabella is a princess through and through. Ben is doing a great job running our business and raising Bianca, Ella, Livie and Laila with Ang. Bianca is brilliant and beautiful, Ella is amazing and has so many boyfriends, Livie still looks like me and Laila is ruling the house. Chris is now working within our company and doing great. He actually has become YOU! The house looks fabulous, the pond and fish are thriving and he is taking great care of your Michel. I have been traveling alot because I don't miss you as much when I'm gone. Being at the cabin and my empty home is still the hardest. I miss you everyday and I will love you forever. Me

Hi Pete,
I had dinner with Diane, Angela, Gary , & Jody last night. Gary & Jody are going home today, you know they will always be there for Diane. Your boys are doing a great job, supporting your wife, when they can't be there I always will. I love you and miss you. Rest in peace, my friend.

I miss you more than I ever thought possible! I pray everyday that my memories of you are filled with the strong, active, handsome, and wonderful man I love and that all memory of what this horrible disease did to you is gone. I know you are whole again, without anguish or pain and with so many people we love. I pray that gets me through whatever my life will be without you. I will love you forever!

This message is to the entire Karcz family.
I am so sorry about your loss. I have been thinking about all of you since the day I heard the sad news. I truly loved Mr. Karcz and he was always in the stands for me as well. He was a great man who truly did an amazing job raising 3 boys and I cant put into words the love that I saw between him and his wife. He will be sadly missed by all.

Dear Diane & Family,
Pete was taken way too soon in life and it doesn't seem fair. As we have learned, life isn't fair and we must play the cards we're dealt. You will continue to see Pete in your children and grandchildren as he watches from above. The memories can never be taken away. We wish you the strength to carry on. We love an miss all.

Dear Pete, my Lovie, my soulmate, the other half of my heart,
I had to write to tell you how much you are missed all already. You would be so surprised to see the hundreds of people who came to visit you! Everyone is so sad that you aren't here with us. It's not real for me and I hear you calling for me all night. I can't imagine who is rubbing your head right now but my heart is breaking that it is not me. I know we talked about it so often but I have to thank you again for the beautiful boys we created, Brian, Ben and Kissie. I know they are men now but to us they will always be our little boys. They are strong and handsome and have carried on your legacy with the most beautiful babies on earth. Who could ever forget that Brandon's first word was "Pappy" or that Bianca and Ella yell Pap, Pap at the top of their lungs when they see you. We will make sure that all our babies especially Jackson and Olivia never forget you EVER! I have to say goodbye to you this morning and I don't know that I can survive that. I do know that you are the love of my life and I have loved you from the first moment I saw you. I know that no one will ever love me more than you and our love is forever and ever. We fought hard and we loved harder! We were a great love story, you and I, with no ending. I will love you forever and I will miss you more. Until we meet again, my Lovie.....

Who would ever dream that after all those years of us sharing gym time, your son and our daughter would reconnect and marry? Brian and Lora have given us two beautiful grandsons to cherish your memory.

A few years from now when we sit in the bleachers and watch Brandon and Jackson, we know that you will have the best seat in the house.

You were a devoted father and a loving and adoring grandfather.

Love you.

I went to school and graduated from CV with Tom. He was a sweet guy. I wish that I had known him in recent years. Reading this beautiful tribute moved me to tears. I will always stop "to watch the paint dry " and share Tom's special message with my family. Be strong.

Pete...the unofficial mayor of Oakdale...I stopped to deliver something to Diane one time....I stopped at the local gas station in Oakdale and asked where Western Ave was...the gas station attendant asked me who I needed to visit on Western...when I told her The Karcz home she was proud to tell me that "Pete " isn't home....he just filled his car up here at 3 pm and had to work second shift at the airport...just like Mayberry RFD...he loved his Oakdale home and neighborhood and they loved him...great guy...married to a wonderful girl! Prayers for the family ...he was a gentle giant

Diane and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Tom was friends with my brother, Jim, in high school. They were in a car accident together many years ago. I called Jim this morning to tell him and he was saddened to hear this. He recently saw Tom at Rocky's and they reminisced about old times. The obit was wonderfully written and I've read it several times and it makes me smile. What an interesting and good family man he was!

Karcz family,
Pete was such a great guy coming into the office with Kashious and talking while he waited for Diane to finish work. Although he and Dane only met a few times they were Marine corp brothers and spoke about their Parris Island experiences. Rest in peace Pete.

We will always have fond memories of Pete. As a small child looking up he was my gentle giant. Pete will be greatly missed by his "Bad Girl"..
