Thomas Marron Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 19, 2024.
Thomas J. Marron, 81, of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., beloved husband of Gail (Murray) Marron, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

Born in Philadelphia, Tom was the oldest son of Charles and Mary (Dooley) Marron. He grew up in Meadowbrook, Pa.

He graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1960 and attended LaSalle College. He started his carpenter apprenticeship in May 1965 and graduated in May 1969; he later studied Business and Construction Management at Penn State and Temple University. He worked for Calvitti & Co. in East Falls, Pa. and Standard Pressed Steel in Glenside before joining Willard, Inc. While working at Willard, Inc., he learned the business of cooling tower erections and maintenance and founded his own business, Tower Maintenance Service Co., in Huntingdon Valley, that he led until his retirement in 2017.

Tom married Kathleen Bird of Warminster on February 8, 1964. Their daughter, Donna Marie, was born in 1965. While their marriage ended in 1967, Tom remained an integral part of his daughter's life, sharing his love for all things mechanical and setting her on a path for a life-long love of horses, through which he met Gail Murray (Kugler). They married in June 2007.

Tom was an autodidact and was very knowledgeable about many subjects. He had exceptional carpentry, electrical, mechanical and engineering skills which he applied to his business and to his interests. He was passionate about many hobbies and generously shared his love of boating, sailing, and snowmobiling with his family and friends. He was also a stock car racing fan and owned a collection of classic cars and trucks. He was active with the Doylestown Road Angels, National Chrysler Products Club, American Truck Historical Society, and Boyertown Truck Museum. Tom enjoyed participating in local car shows, rod runs, cruise nights as well as traveling to Chryslers at Carlisle, Syracuse Nationals, Pocono Raceway, and Street Rods on the Boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ.

Tom was a dedicated member of his community, volunteering with numerous organizations. He was a member of the local United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Delaware Valley Safety Council (Certified Cooling Tower Institute) and the Lower Moreland Business Association.

In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by his daughter, Donna Marron, her husband Joseph Jenkins, and his granddaughters, Ashley and Cara Jenkins of Harleysville, Pa.; sister Maureen McCullough and her wife, Marcella Colonna of Glenside, Pa.; sister Therese Brindle of Exton, Pa.; brother Richard Marron and his wife, Nancy of Lansdale, Pa.; brother Barry Marron and his husband, Anthony Casasanto of Ambler, Pa.; brother Robert and his wife, Bonnie of Huntingdon Valley, Pa.; sister Deborah Marron and her husband, Michael Rosenberg of Ocean Pines, Md.; nine nieces and nephews; and ten great nieces and nephews.

My condolences to his wife and his entire family. He was a very uniquely intelligent man and had such a full life. He was a great conversationalist on many subjects and topics. I enjoyed talking with him on several occasions. May he rest in peace!

Tommy was the big country kid in our family of cousins. I may have gotten my first love of off roading and wildlife exploration from seeing him.. He was always focussed on the next amazing thing but thoughtful of his little younger cousins...though he may not have wanted anyone to know!!
A good man!
