Tom will be missed every day in Hickory. He was a legend and will always be remembered not only for his voice in the City Council but his determination and love for our city. Every time I walk the streets in my are I think of Tom and remember delivering his newsletter which was so greatly appreciated. He spent a lot of time and effort on this project and it leaves an empty hole in our political arena. Maybe he's putting together a "heavenly" paper upstairs!

He was a force in Hickory Hills, 'gung ho' on the City and the people that lived there. Gosh, I loved his energy. He was a genuinely nice man and fun to be around. He will be missed.

Tom was a wonderful alderman, his newsletters full of useful information. We were always proud to help distribute them Roger and I were very proud to help contribute by writing "The Other Side of Kean", telling about our work in the forest preserves . Tom honored my husband by coming to our brass band celebration when we dedicated his bench in the woods. And though both our men have left Hickory Hills, I imagine the two of them organizing things in heaven.

Tom was a good friend to both my husband and me. They worked together at the "data bank". I always appreciated his ability to put the perfect words to the message that he was conveying, even if at times it was a rather long. His sense of humor and always smiling demeanor will be missed. My deepest sympathies to Erin and all who loved him.

My family and I would like to extend our sympathies to the Thomas McAvoy family on the loss of Thomas. He was a man who truly cared about our community and worked to make it a better place to live. He responded to requests for help and published he own election newsletter with information about the candidates and what judges to not vote for. He was also on hand at the local Polling place to greet voters and catch up on local family happenings! Since retiring from his aldermanic seat I have come to miss him and noted his absence from the polling place at the last election. He will be truly missed by everyone in our ward and city. Rest in peace to a truly dedicated public servant!

Tom was a childhood friend from St Rita. Always an adventure and always fun. He was a favorite altar boy of my mom Genevieve Chovancak when she cooked at St Rita and he loved her chili. His dad, Babe, and he taught me the ropes of Chicago politics. God Bless Tom and his family. Mike Chovancak

Tom was an icon in Hickory Hills. We loved him and he loved us. His newsletter was an important factor during election time. We all looked forward to it (and we also volunteered to distribute it). He made a huge difference in Hickory and he will be sorely missed. He was the best!
