Thomas E Mintz

Thomas "Tom" Mintz of Middlefield, CT passed away on July 27, 2025, after a long and stubborn fight with Parkinson's disease. He faced it with quiet strength, a sharp sense of humor, and plenty of grit. He was 81 years old.

Tom was a true local - born, raised, and rooted in Middlefield his entire life. A lifelong dairy farmer, he understood the value of hard work (and probably talked to cows more than people on most days). But when he had the chance, he was always ready to hit the slopes - often thanks to trips expertly planned by his wife and their close friends the Steinlees.

He was passionate about adventure and skiing and managed to carve his way across some of the world's most iconic mountains - the Matterhorn, Innsbruck, Germany, Italy, and many more. It was skiing that led him to the love of his life, Carmita, whom he met while they were both on the Powder Ridge Ski Patrol. The slopes brought them together, and their life was filled with laughter, travel, and a deep love for family.

Tom was the son of the late Frederick and Eloise Mintz. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Carmita, and her son, David J. Truskoff. He leaves behind a family who adored him, including daughters Catherine Corson of Middlefield, Dorienne Smith and her husband Joe of Mansfield, Nancy Augustine and her husband Alan of Middlefied, and Tracy Dart and her husband Rich of Guilford. He was a proud grandfather to Cheryl Corson, Denise Corson, Christopher Augustine and his wife Michelle, Jarred Truskoff, and Jason Dart. He was a great-grandfather to David and Alexander Augustine, and Eden Truskoff. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill Mintz and his wife Sydney, and Linda Leahey and her husband Bill.

Tom lived a rich life, filled with early mornings on the farm, and travel stories that only got better in the retelling. He was steady, kind, and had a gift for the perfectly timed dry remark. He never asked for the spotlight, but when he spoke, people listened.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 1:00 PM at Middlefield Federated Church, 402 Main Street, Middlefield, CT 06455. All are welcome.
