THOMAS TOSH Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 16 to Apr. 23, 2015.
Thomas Edwin Tosh Loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend Thomas Edwin Tosh went to his heavenly home April 14, 2015. Born in 1930 to parents, John and Lillie Tosh in Huntingdon, TN. He is predeceased by his siblings, Alice Bell Wilder, John Martin Tosh and Robert Harlin Tosh, and his stepson, Jay Wallace. He served as a medic with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Southwestern at Memphis where he was captain of the football team, president of his fraternity SAE, played basketball, ran track, was a member of ODK, and President of the Junior Class. He retired from Union Planters Bank as a commercial loan officer. He was a dedicated member of Second Presbyterian Church where he served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, capital campaign chairman, family camp coordinator, and greeter. It is the latter job that he loved the most because of his deep love for people. The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers at Allen Morgan Health Center (where Tom spent the final three and a half years of his life), and Crossroads Hospice. He leaves his wife, Blanche Pope Tosh; daughter, Erin F. Tosh; stepson, Bruce Pope Wallace; granddaughter, Lena Wallace; and many loving friends. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., on Friday, April 17 at Second Presbyterian Church. Burial in Memphis National Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Second Presbyterian Mission fund or the charity of your choice. Memorial Park Funeral Home, "Behind the stone wall", 901-767-8930. To all who loved Tom: He is such a hero in so many ways, he aged with the dignity of incredible courage and self-sacrifice that is very rare. He always put others above himself and enjoyed life with great insight, intelligence and a keen wit. His life is an example for us all. I have respect for him that is inspiring and uplifting. He will be greatly missed, always loved, and remembered fondly. May you rest in peace, you are an incredible man with the bravest of hearts. Love, Rena

Mrs. Tosh, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in your time of sorrow. I had the privilege and delight of working with him at Union Planters many years ago and found him to be kind, uplifting, and simply delightful. Even after I left Commercial Banking it was a joy to see him in the neighborhood on occasion as we lived around the corner on Whitewater for 14 years. I know your heart is breaking but I pray you will be comforted by the knowledge that he is with his Savior and that you will be reunited in that beautiful place where there are no tears. Peace and blessings to you and your family.
