Timothy Bair Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2015.
Timothy Murray Bair, of San Francisco, died unexpectedly Oct. 19, 2015, at his home.

The son of Dr. Hugo Linden and Harriet Sullivan Bair, he was born in Rochester on Jan. 19, 1941. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1959, attended Beloit College (Beloit, Wis.) and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a major in philosophy. After doing graduate work in philosophy and law, he went on to work in the computer programming field, eventually working as a systems analyst for various large banks including First National Bank of St. Paul and Bank of America in San Francisco. He moved from Minneapolis to San Francisco in 1976 where he specialized in working with banking accounting and financial programs. He took on some major projects over the years, making solid contributions.

Though he treasured his privacy, Tim was a gregarious individual with an ironic and clever sense of humor. Social occasions where he was present were often filled with his distinctive laughter and stories about past adventures of various kinds. As a young man, he enjoyed such activities as camping and hiking. While still living in Minneapolis, he was active in the Coffee House Extempore, serving on its board at one time. In earlier years, he also did a fair amount of traveling to favorite spots in the U.S. In later life, after retirement, his interests focused on current political, national and international events, as well as topics in modern physics. Tim was always up to speed on what was going on in the world, and was a good resource for information and ideas. He was a close student of contemporary Supreme Court cases, making good use of his brief stint in law school.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Molly Ann, and an older brother, Hugo Linden, Jr. (Lindy).

He is survived by a sister, Sally O'Sullivan Bair, of Monticello, and numerous cousins.
