Tommye Darlene "T. D." (Jones) Jones

Dr. Tommye D. Jones, PhD, passed away, peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at home with her loving family in Houston, Texas after a five year battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease.

Born in Lufkin, Texas, Tommye was a brilliant educator and lecturer dedicated to her field of study and loved by many students. She received her PhD from Oklahoma State University and was a professor of Early Childhood Education and Educational Psychology. She previously taught at Stephen F. Austin and the University of Houston. In addition to teaching, Tommye also collaborated with many professors and psychologists in research of the psychology of learning as well as statistical diagnostics.

Tommye is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas L. Jones and Lillie Mae Jones, of Lufkin, Texas and her former husband, Carter L Franklin of Houston, Texas.

She is survived by her loving family, a daughter, son-in-law, two grandsons, daughter-in-law, and her beloved cousin whom she considered a brother, and his wife.

In lieu of a traditional memorial service, Tommye's wishes were for her life to be celebrated by making a donation to either Stephen F Austin, State University, The University Houston, Oklahoma State University or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

My deepest sympathies to Tommye´s daughter and her family. Tommye Darlene had a beautiful spirit and I always enjoyed seeing and visiting with her and Caroline. Blessings, and Love from Linda (Smith) Langford.

I knew her as Dr. Franklin when I was a student at SFA. I have talked about her and her class for the past 50 years. She made a huge impression on me - I wanted to be the kind of teacher she was! Her class is the only college course I never missed. She was such a classy lady. Prayers for the family.
